Hi, I’ve tried looking for an answer to my question, but haven’t found one. I’m a US citizen with Finnish residency (family based). I’m applying to PhD programs this spring, looking to start in the fall. Only thing is, we have a baby on the way and I’m not sure I’ll actually be able to commit to full time studies. Is it possible to apply and put the acceptance on hold? Or should I apply for part-time studies? How would either situation affect possible funding? Thanks for any advice,
American here. I’d love to see Finland in the hopefully near future. Are Americans and other visitors from non EU countries able to come to Finland among all of this covid karfoffel? Plus, assuming I make it to Helsinki, where should I go from there?
Hey, I applied for a residence permit based on cohabitation in Finland. I am a non-EU citizen. I’m wondering if my decision is a negative, when would I be able to re-enter schengen area?
I’ve been awaiting for my decision in Finland for 8 months, however I have friends I’d like to visit in Europe at some point, so I’m concerned I won’t be able to if my decision is a negative, or even a positive.
I’m confused so I’d appreciate any clarifications, please
Moi. I’m from non-EU, non-Western country, moving to Espoo as a specialist. I have a permit and all. Now, my wife is moving with me. She’s holding a family ties permit, can work, etc.
How hard is it, generally, to find a job speaking English only?
She’s not in IT. She’s been working for UNDP for quite some time in development programs. Have no clue what they do 😄
Hey guys, i am from the US, I will be in Finland this week. Question, is Turku or Tampere worth visiting in the winter time as a day trip? Thanks. (I have been to Helsinki a few times).
Hello. Is there a way for foreigner outside Schengen zone to receive a residence permission and to work remotely on a company abroad but to pay all correspondimg taxes inside Finland? Or will you have to find a local employer and to change your job for that purpose?
Hi! I’m an American writer with at least 50% Finnish ancestry. I’m trying to find a way get there and make a living there. My grandparents (now dead) were third generation immigrants to the iron ore mines in northern MI. I feel like a lot of my family history went with them when they died. Anyway I want to write in Finland to feel closer to the ghosts of my family. Maybe something hidden deep within me will come out in my writing there?
I’ve applied to some grants and residencies, but getting awarded those are a pipe dream. Does anyone have experience teaching English in Finland? What’s it like? How did you do it? Was it affordable?
Long-term (5-year) resident here that is returning to Finland after a couple of months staying in an EEA country visiting my long-term partner. For entry purposes relating to COVID-19 restrictions, do I count as a permanent resident? I swear I read somewhere that I do, but am getting mixed messages from THL, Raja and other websites and just can’t be certain!
Are there any nationwide online job recruiting services? In America we
have resources such as Indeed Job Search, ZipRecruiter, and I’ve heard
to some extent LinkedIn and others. The employers are able to post their
open positions with descriptions of requirements, pay, and other useful
info and you are able to submit the application digitally. America
is a massive country with many job openings virtually everywhere so I am
not surprised this exists for us, (under one service for the entire
country,) though much of Finland seems to be clustered in a select few
large metro areas. Naturally I wondered if something similar exists.
What is the weather like during summer in the Lapland, particularly
around Sodankylä, for those that may know or have access to weather
reports which are likely in Finnish, or even personal experience.
Are there any resources anyone may know of to help my studies of
Finnish? Particularly how to help me better understand agglutinate
words/phrases as an English speaking American, as well as proper usage
of grammatical cases. In years past I’ve found Duolingo to be lacking,
to me its more memory based on what is right or wrong rather than
informative or instructive, which is not an effective learning format
for myself.
