The Irish People: “Please, sirs. Just one (1) affordable home for the population?”
Sinn Féin: “We’re putting the DUP in Dáil Éireann.”
Will Sinn Fein campaign on pushing for a United Ireland for the next general election?
Seems like easy brownie points, especially with Michelle O’Neill leading up north.
I think this is the exact worst time to ask for this
The Tories are finally thrown out and Labour’s in, arguing for scrapping the Legacy Act and drawing closer to the EU again. This could be Sinn Fein torpedoing themselves just like the SNP did by trying to challenge a political party aligned too closely with their own base on social/economic issues.
Also, a border poll brought by a legal technicality sounds somewhat underhand and delegitimises the vote. It should be through agreed upon vote in Stormont or appeal to the NI Secretary that a border poll should be sought
I would actually, genuinely, vote no if a border poll was delivered today. I dont mind Labour, Im watching like a hawk but I quite like their influence. Its if the likes of Reform snaked their way in to power and started the English populist shite that I’d slap yes in a heartbeat
Tíocfaidh ár lá
Sinn Fein trying to deflect the conversation away from their recent misadventures.
There’s no prospect of a unity referendum in the near future, and there’s several years’ worth of discussions and proposals to arrange first.
Pearse Doherty is perfectly well aware of this.
Kinda feel like the big brain play on the UK and unionist part would be to go for it. It will obviously fail and there is a chance SF could be kneecapped for the foreseeable future afterwards like the SNP was in scotland
Someone said before SF are the worst party to try deliver a united Ireland and they are right. Any talk of unity or votes risks kicking off a load of trouble again so they need to be grown ups on this.
It still amazes me to think that SF really care about anything else but a United Ireland.
We still have people voting with what they want SF to represent.
Really should bide their time on this until they know 100% it will pass. I think when you look at the results in elections SF are the biggest party but the unionist vote is so fragmented and still ahead % wise to the nationalist vote, also Alliance votes could go either way.
How to lose even more popularity. Nobody cares, it’s not a concern for anyone down south.
Headline is misleading as usual. Pearse talks alot of sense in that article hopefully it’s the approach SF keep in regards to a referendum.
