First of all, hi. Glad to have you around.
I have posted basically the same thread before, people in general seemed to respond positive, I am doing it again. To be honest this one is also a repost since I stoped been so active in Reddit.
Some recent updates but not many things will be different from the previous one, the narrative will be the same and aim of this post will be the same, talking. As long they don’t get all patronizing about the things you and I know while ignoring the things they don’t know i think we can have a good talk.
This is not a post to ask you to see all the bad things that came in the summer of 1974. I will not engage on historic profs for you to ignore, a quick Wikipedia search and scrolling to this sub will do the same ( history of EOKA, Grivas, Makarios, TMT, 1963, 1974, etc etc ). I want to talk about something more important.
I want to believe you are here not only by curiosity, but cause you care for the Turkish Cypriots and what is happening to them. You care enough to post about the bloody Xmas or the “Baris mission” (that came 11 years after) every year, I don’t want to believe it is only an annual thing that is only used for patronizing the “greeks/griks ” or used as a propaganda for taksims and then not giving a shit for em all the other time of the year. You don’t want victims of massacres used for propaganda right? Of course not! You want em to be happy and prosper as the “Baris mission” was about as you been told.
Now, let’s talk about the Turkish Cypriots (TCs). This is what is happening to them TODAY:
New/Update
・this speech was really interesting.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArZDOHPik1I
・over 30% of thenative tc population decrease in the north this past decade.
https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/08/14/north-sees-population-surge-of-33-7-per-cent-over-past-decade/
・fake diploma scandals in the universities. Questioning even more how well the education he is provided in the north .
https://cyprus-mail.com/2024/03/11/eyes-on-mp-in-norths-fake-diploma-scandal/
Still relevant.
• Many of the TC youth is not working or will not work in the north, migrating in Europe, Turkey and the south. Any TC with money does not come from their domestic income but from working abroad. Recent https://www.reddit.com/r/cyprus/comments/11lx04m/on_a_lighter_note/
• This past spring children had to study under tends under Famagusta Namik Kemal high-school. https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/03/13/tent-schools-in-the-north-flood/
• Any journalist that criticizes Turkey is either jailed or imprisoned. Last time i talked about Sener Levent, great name for you to google, recently we had Ulas Baris been denied to enter Europe. https://www.reddit.com/r/cyprus/comments/12o3cj3/latest_statement_by_akinci_about_ulas_baris/
•Secular Turkish Cypriot community under threat. The demographics of TRNC are overwhelmed by settlers, surpassing the population of the indigenous people more than 50% ( and I know you care about that cause you can’t stop complaining how the islamists are influencing negatively Turkey, having about 3-5 million refugees and immigrants vs the 82 million that turkey has ) https://cyprus-mail.com/2023/01/22/secular-turkish-cypriot-community-under-threat/
• they still deeply dependent economically by the Greek Cypriots visiting em. Lots of their income also come from Iranians and Russians buying fancy places right next to ruins.
• 2020 elections in the T Republic NC where influenced by turkey to make sure none BBF leader was elected. Not only that, Mustafa Akinci was getting death threats by the Turkish government.
• Settlers intentionally or unintentionally will patronize the TCs, telling em how “they” or “their father” saved em from genocide. No one likes a greek guy patronizing anyone for how they’ll are the beginning of the democracy or halve of everything was invented by the Greeks so try to imagine how the TCs feel every time the have the same “discussion” every settler that tries to fit in.
I will post links in the comments about what I’m talking about and I hope some of my TCs will add or correct me if I said anything wrong.

Now, I know you want to tell how much the GCs want to kill the TCs ( like we are still in the 60s) or how much of a “good thing “ 1974 and 1983 was or about 2004 or 2017(if you know about 2017, kudos) and how great the TRNC is but i will ask you not to. You can do that anytime of the year and we will give you the same links that can ignore. Let’s focus on the ones I want to believe you care.
What I want you to do, is show us that you truly care for this minority of the island and that they are not just a propaganda tool for your country. I’ll be talking to you individually , You’re not representing your country you’re a present in yourself and what you believe about the situation in Cyprus. So no “we”s here, I want more “l”s than “we”s.
In the end of the day, the one who knows better what is going on, what is the best for them are the the TCs them selves. Write something in Turkish or in English, they will talk with you.
So I dare you my dear visitor. Are you only gonna remember the TCs in July and December only to be treated as propaganda for partition ( intentionally or unintentionally) or are you gonna really care about TCs, fight and talk about what is happening to them today.

Here’s to 50 more years of this post being made every year. It should be put on a schedule to be automatically posted every 1 year
Edit: The articles are really interesting, especially the reference to Syrian refugees in Turkey. However, I think you forgot a very important part of this whole text.
A big reason that (mainland Turks) excuse their presence in Cyprus is due to the failure of the Annan Plan, so I’d like to give a few reasons as to why the Greek Cypriots refused to adopt the Annan Plan, in an oversimplified way:
Integration with Turkey: The Turkish Cypriot entity would be heavily influenced by Turkey, making the United Cyprus Republic answerable to Turkey.
Interference in Treaties: Turkey would have the right to interfere with Cyprus’ treaties, including those with Egypt regarding the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cyprus
Perpetual Turkish Troops: Turkish troops would remain in Cyprus indefinitely, while the Greek garrison would have to leave.
Disproportionate Representation: Despite the population ratio (TCs making up only 1/3rd of the population), the Senate and Supreme Court would have equal Greek and Turkish representation, favoring Turkish Cypriots.
Confederation Structure: The plan resembled a confederation rather than a federation, with no clear hierarchy of laws.
Foreign Judges: The Supreme Court would include three foreign judges who could cast deciding votes.
Turkish Settlers: The plan did not adequately address the repatriation of Turkish settlers or prevent future mass settling by Turkey.
Geneva Convention Violation: The plan ignored the prohibition on colonization by an occupying power as outlined in the Geneva Convention.
Exclusion from EU Policies: Cyprus would be excluded from the European Common Defense and Foreign Policy.
Limited Right of Return: Only 20% of Greek Cypriot refugees could return over 25 years, unlike Turkish Cypriots, who could return at any time.
Unequal Immediate Benefits: Turkish Cypriots would gain immediate benefits, while Greek Cypriot demands were long-term and dependent on Turkey’s goodwill.
Delayed Land Return: Land return would take up to 3.5 years with no guarantees, and the UN’s proposal to oversee these areas was rejected.
British Sovereign Base Areas: The plan did not address the issue of British bases, allowing Britain to define territorial waters and claim mineral rights.
Turkey’s Exoneration: The plan absolved Turkey of responsibility for its invasion, killings, rapes, and destruction in 1974.
Property Rights Subversion: Greek Cypriots’ property rights were undermined, with restrictions on recourse to European courts.
Economic Burden: Greek Cypriots would bear the economic cost of reunification, estimated at $20 billion.
Population Quotas: Greek Cypriots would face quotas in Turkish-controlled areas, limiting their ability to establish schools and settle.
Civil Rights Restrictions: Greek Cypriots returning to Turkish-controlled areas would lack civil rights.
EU Participation Risks: The plan could jeopardize Cyprus’ participation in the EU, creating functional weaknesses.
Separate Economies: The economies of the two states would remain separate, with no common monetary or fiscal policy.
EU Law Concerns: Many felt the plan was rushed to avoid incorporating elements of European law that would conflict with its provisions.
As you can see, this plan heavily favored the Turkish side. That’s why it was rejected,
Call to my fellow Cypriots have they have anything else to add that fits , please send me link (English or turkish)
There are more scandals in RoC and EU itself. Corrupt politicians are everywhere. Living in isolation is not good of course, but trusting again to your neighbors that tried to genocide your grandfathers few decades back? I don’t think so.
What you are trying to do is: Hey TC’s, Turkey is not good. What we are thinking is: at least they respect our identity and they helped us to have a land that we literally own, while GC’s still don’t see TC’s as equal owners of the island.
Blaming Turkey will not help you to fix Cyprus issue. Start by accepting equality from now on. If you don’t accept and insult Turkish population of the island as “settlers”, you will have to do it after 20 years with even more settlers, while GC population is becoming less and less every year.
If intentions are good, why every UN proposed plan is rejected by Greeks? “No, because GC’s own all the island and TC’s are just the minority” So you will stuck with a dead country with bleeding population and don’t even have control half of its claimed territory. At least you are an EU member, so your youth can escape this nonsense 🙂
First of all, I know the person who did this post and I really, sincerely want to send my thanks from here. A Greek Cypriot prepared this post by the way. So I really want to thank him as a Turkish Cypriot. And to Anatolian Turks who are out here, yes, Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots are friends and they care for each other. Because our grandparents have lived together on this island for centuries and now as their grandchildren, we want to live together, under the same flag, same state, in a reunified land.
1. There are lots of things to update people about the north side of Cyprus… But let’s start with the simplest one. For example, even today is a celebratory (!) day for Turkey and Erdogan is here, we had a huge power cut and now I am at a cafe, sitting in front of my laptop, trying to do my work. We have lots of power cuts here, especially during the summer. Yes, during the summer. Under this hot weather of Cyprus, Turkish Cypriots are left without electricity. Because they want our the privatization of our electricity sector. Yes, they want us to sell to our electricity sector to someone in Turkey who Erdogan supports.
2. Have you seen the ‘celebrations’ of 20th of July today, in Cyprus? You could not find a single Turkish Cypriot there. This drastically shows that our population in Cyprus is decreasing, we are getting assimilated. There are lots of articles about this. And I just want to give you another example, you don’t want Syrians in Turkey, right? You are scared that they are going to overpopulate you, assimilate you, they are going to stay in Turkey forever, right? Yeah. We have the same feeling towards foreigner people who are trying to assimilate us here. I will just need you to have a little empathy with us.
3. And do you know how it feels to live in a ‘de facto’ state where nobody recognises? It is an actual ‘gray zone’ for lots of crimes, criminals. Money laundering, sex trafficking, drug dealers, and lots of other crimes. I don’t feel safe in my own country. And that’s just because ‘trnc’ is an unrecognised entity. And it will never be recognised. You know why? Because Turkey is a guarantor of Republic of Cyprus, not only Turkish Cypriots, but the state it claims that it does not recognise. And unfortunately, Turkey went against the Constitution of Republic of Cyprus, it didn’t respect the territorial integrity of Republic of Cyprus and divided it into two. Even though Turkey claimed that it is going to restore the Constitutional order while coming to the island. According to the UNSC Resolutions, only solution is a reunited Cyprus. Nothing else is possible.
I will surely add more when I am at home. Because it is quite noisy here and i cannot think properly to write things down. Yes, this is also what ‘trnc’ does to us.
