Brexit has nothing to do with the difficulties that he faced, nor the price he paid.
Pets were never allowed on flights into the UK or on Eurostar even before Brexit as far as I’m aware. Brexit fucked it up for British pet owners, who have to pay £200 per trip for the Animal Health Certificate.
This is some horrible planning on his part, they could’ve flown to Paris (cheaper than trains I’m sure) and rented a car. If they don’t drive, ask a friend to help and then even bring the car back. £600 for a taxi is just not a good solution. Similarly there are companies who do this professionally and take care of animal’s wellbeing.
Not sure what extra documentation they needed, but assuming they registered a dog with an Italian vet, they’d have a pet passport and therefore can enter the UK.
So yeah nothing to do with Brexit really, just poor planning.
Don’t some of the cross channel ferries have kennel facilities? Why wasn’t this option considered?
I’m all for bashing brexit but this story is really reaching. The only part about brexit was how he needed an extra certificate which he applied for, got and had no trouble at the border.

This is fun! How much did that famous fucker guy in kaboul pay to transport by military hercules all his pets? Will he even receive a bill? Lol
For future reference, the good route is fly (or otherwise travel) to Netherlands/Belgium/Western Germany then go to the Dutch docks and take a ferry.
The Dutch routes permit taking a dog as a foot passenger as long as you have the EU pet passport/required docs. (Hoek van Holland)
The Harwich route allows 3 pets when you use the onboard kennel as a foot passenger.
