  1. > Yet the 31-year-old TikToker, who came to live in the UK in 2001 when her family fled Somalia’s civil war, is not afraid to take on such taboos with humorous, engaging and sometimes heart-breaking honesty.

    >Using the name Shamsa Araweelo on TikTok, she has shared a horrific account of how she was forcibly married off and raped not long after she turned 18 while on a trip to Somalia. It took six months for her to find a way to escape back to the UK.

No information in this article but I hope there were some consequences for her family if they were involved? Absolutely horrible story, crazy that we still allow some forms of genital mutilation in this country.

  2. Very explicit discussion of a topic that’s really ignored.

I couldn’t read it all. I’m a gay guy. Chopping bits off anyone is wrong. Chopping off intimate bits? I couldn’t continue to read. It’s just super, super wrong.

    Discussion points:

Should the NHS fund reconstruction after mutilation that was initiated by the victims family? Or should restitution by the family be mandated?

How hard should we pursue parents that dictate mutilation, given the discussion around Trans kids, that the parents have the right to decide if they receive gender affirming care?

  5. I hope this makes something right for her. Horrible situation for anyone to be in. Just awful.
