driving through rural Belarus must feel like being in a post-apocalyptic movie
I have wanted to visit Belarus for awhile now. It didn’t really appeal to me much when I was studying Slavic languages; Moscow and Petersburg were more exciting to me. Now I think I’d really enjoy Belarus, especially Minsk, just as much if not more. The Soviet and Imperial-era architecture looks amazing, and I’ve read that the populace is very welcoming to tourists.
I wonder if that’s still the case though given the crackdowns on protests and the deployment of Russian troops…
It’s kind of a shame about the demographic crisis in Russia and Belarus, but hopefully in the long term those changes will help both countries become more free and more (pluralistically) wealthy!
