The Democrats’ discord is a sign of a healthy party – The RNC was a MAGA lovefest, but Democrats are still the actually-functioning party.

Hmm, that’s a take.
This writer is huffing pure copium
Yes, this is a good thing that bodes well for the immediate future of the party and long term health of the nation.
I wholeheartedly agree. If a party can’t move it’s full weight into removing and replacing a candidate who is not or no longer fit to serve in the office then it fails to be a responsible party. The Republicans failed to do what they needed to do for 3 conventions in a row now. The Democrats are trying to get it done. Let’s hope we can succeed.
The writer of this article used to work for Huff Post. I think that speaks volumes.
lol. The copium.
This will be the third consecutive democrat presidential candidate that is nominated by the DNC by subverting or manipulating the will of their voters.
Sure, but ideally the discord and debate happens 6 months earlier and somewhat more privately
The timing of this is terrible…..
BUT is a sign of a group of people who possess critical-thinking skills …… which is always good.
Yep. I get people being apprehensive about “turning” on Biden but I’m happy knowing the party I support doesn’t blindly follow one guy. I follow a set of ideals and I personally don’t believe Biden is able to beat Trump. So I want another candidate in there.
The MAGA crowd will support Trump regardless of what he does. They aren’t Republicans, they’re blind followers of Trump.
Any Democrat who says “just shut up and support Biden” is just doing what the blind MAGA crowd does. It’s doing what JD Vance did. If you truly don’t believe in someone you should be able to voice those concerns.
WTF. Which party actually had a competitive primary? And which one is trying to select a leader based on blackmail from wealthy donors? 🤡
Maybe so, but not 4 months before a must win election fighting for our democracy against against Christo fascists.
Beating our own candidates and preventing them from making it to the end and winning is “healthy?” Sure buddy.
It blows my mind that they are trying to spin this in a positive light.
The only reason this conversation is happening now is because media and the party elites covered it up until it became so glaringly obvious that they HAD to address it.
“The car is making a funny noise. What is it?” … “I don’t know hun, ignore it till it breaks” – the functioning party
I hope so. New Democrat here. I feel like I was pushed out of the other party for believing that the orange Messiah for Morons is unfit to lead.
Yes, but they should have done this a year ago and not so publicly.
Were party leaders completely unaware of how bad he was going to look in public appearances?
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/rnc-trump-biden-drop-out-dnc-rcna161585) reduced by 91%. (I’m a bot)

This is some real newspeak MSNBC…
Not what all the putin and maga bots want to hear
A functional party would have democratic primaries.
The cope is hilarious.
Nothing is “ normal “ so . What ever happens happens. The road map is out the window. People will vote the same as they would have before this drama anyway .
Nothing about what is happening with the Democratic party can be considered as “functioning”. They’re a mess.
If the debate never happened nobody would have known about Biden’s condition.
Serious question. Would we still be claiming that it’s healthy if it was the Republicans going through this?
Get it together already
Democrats are trying to win. They see a significant sign of weakness in their nominee and re trying to get him out for some one who can win. It’s objectively healthy to do.
Sure, we’ll be functioning as the party out of power.
This is why Democrats lose elections that they should win.
They double down on bad tactics. They may as well just hand the election to the Republicans, as they are deliberately trying to appear to be even more chaotic and dysfunctional than the GOP.
I mean a healthy party wouldn’t have let it come to this. Best case — assuming they fix this — is they aren’t moribund..
I kinda want to post this as much as possible because watching it come into reality is going to be great… The contrast will be sharply displayed if the Dems emerge with a new ticket, presumably led by Harris in time for the next debate. The reason I say this is that it’s objectively verifiable that Donald Trump’s mental acuity has declined very dramatically, not quite as much as Biden’s *yet* but if he ever has to go toe-to-toe with someone sharp like Harris i’s going to be unmistakable to anyone. Literally anyone.
Right but the supposedly unhealthy party is currently on course to sweep all three branches of government so….
Well the discord of the healthy party might cause the cult of a party to unite and take over this country.
I’m pretty sure this high a dose of copium is illegal in most states.
But the discord is happening too late. Biden wasn’t getting any younger, his age and cognitive decline have been an issue for some time now. Were they not prepared for this? But at least some Democrats are willing to support a new candidate. Seems like all of the Republican Party have fallen in line and have gotten behind their reality-TV show host, 2x impeached, 34x convicted felon, wannabe tyrant candidate.
Ughhhhhh, no. The democrats are incredibly dysfunctional, and should be fucking embarrassed to be in this situation. Biden was clearly unwell and should have retired as a one term president before the primaries even began, but instead the Democratic Party coronated Biden as the nominee without holding an actual primary. If the Democratic Party has a full fledged primary, with multiple debates and actual media coverage we’d have found out last year that Biden was senile and a new candidate could’ve won the primary. Instead we now have a mad scramble to get the senile 81 year who can’t straight together a sentence out and figure out a replacement in like what, less than a month!
Republicans might be just straight up evil, but at least they had a proper primary.
And this is my party’s problem. We place being right, being the bigger person, and making ourselves feel better over winning.
None of this matters. What matters is there are hundreds of millions of adults in America who either don’t vote at all or they vote while knowing little to nothing about what they’re actually voting for.
Democrats are failing abysmally at reaching minimally engaged voters. I get that we liberals enjoy snickering at Hulk Hogan and Kid Rock being at the RNC. Again, whatever makes us feel better. Republicans are well-aware that most Americans treat politics like shallow entertainment, and they exploit it masterfully.
Us Democrats may not like that we’re living in the peak Idiocracy era, but it’s where we are collectively as a society. That’s not going to change between now and November, and meanwhile our way of life is on the line and losing is not an option.
“You have to meet voters where they are” isn’t just a saying.
I probably have to consider myself as guilty as all Democrats, but we are probably heading toward a lesson we all deserve. We choose to be entertained and “angry” over the steady robbing of our American freedoms, but while the Republicans are doing it, the Democrats are putting up meager to no resistance. There’s a way to solve this problem if that were the goal. No. We in America are about to learn that thinking mattered and acting on reality mattered. Not until the majority of society is hurting will anything real happen. Hence, I’ve probably read my last “Trump is a fool” article. We are in for a ride. Time for me to go sailing.
“Mommy and daddy aren’t fighting honey. We’re just disagreeing a little.”
Didn’t work when I was a kid and doesn’t work now.
The sooner people realize both parties suck, then maybe there will be some progress
Democrats not knowing when the primary starts and ends is pretty embarrassing though…
Capitalism has proven that facts don’t matter. Only optics and marketing. Most people are too stupid and lazy to want to do anything about it. Combined with a Russian propaganda through unregulated social media, apathy has run rampant.
Don’t Look Up.
I’m just ready for a final decision to be reached. Either Biden drops out and we can rally behind the new candidate, or he stays in and we can rally behind him. Months of infighting and news coverage has done nothing except make the Democratic Party look weak and disorganized. At this point, the focus needs to be on Trump and energy spent on encouraging voters to vote.
Prove it.
DNC running a husk of a man and then talking about changing its mind at the last second because of donor influence is a good thing?
Thats quite the spin.
The sooner y’all stop trying to put lipstick on a pig and recognize what an absolute disaster the Democratic Party is, the sooner we can get rid of morons like trump and his cultist.
I don’t think so, we had a primary. 90 percent of elected Dems support the president. The president campaigned effectively for over two weeks and held more events than the Republicans. Yet the media is focused on only one item. This seems like a sign of an unhealthy media.
This is like saying one party has cancer and the other has coronary artery disease.
Ya one is technically healthier, but its circlejerking to pretend its lightyears ahead of the other. An “actually-functioning” healthy party does not have an 80 year old running again with genuine questions for his mental faculties in what they claim is the most important election of our time, nor was that what anyone would call a healthy example of primaries.
Yeah, no, and if you think that I got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you
