[Here’s](https://old.reddit.com/r/ireland/comments/sgy0me/getting_mixed_info_from_driving_instructors/) the other post.
Three comments saying the wrong answer had more upvotes than the most upvoted comment saying the correct answer.
The top comment saying the wrong answer had nearly 10 times as many votes as the top comment saying the correct answer.
Since about 90% of people are wrong on this, I figured that it needed clarification.
I was one of those who gave the wrong answer. Like a lot of the others who commented I was taught different when learning to drive(nearly 20 years ago😂) so there seems to be a disconnect between instructors and the actual rules of the road
Who is the other lane for then?
This is exactly what my instructor taught me too. I was surprised by the comments in the post.
If everyone is meant to exit the roundabout in the left lane, why have the second lane at all? Just to confuse drivers?
On a busy roundabout, following the solid red line – crossing lanes – is kinda suicidal. There’s possible traffic going straight from the 9 o clock road and traffic turning left from the 12 o clock road.
Told you. Bikers make safer drivers. You’re welcome.
I fucking knew it!
I saw the top posts saying the orange bear and thought I was wrong thinking it should be the orange ~~yellow~~ bear.
As bad as it is, the problem is that, If the majority of drivers don’t know the correct rules you’re probaly safer to exit in the right overtaking lane…
On another note, Dane Tyghe has a a brilliant backlog of videos for anyone learning to drive, highly recommended
I was right and got downvoted first oO was a bit afraid that I constantly did it wrong. Thanks for checking 🙂

I got a mark in my driver’s test for coming off the roundabout a bit too far to the right (single lane roundabout). I passed but was it pointed out to me that that the the way mentioned here is correct
I was always taught, inside lane when entering roundabout if the destination is between 12 and 6 o clock.
Outside (left lane) when leaving. I think I mentioned this in the previous post, but was downvoted to oblivion.
That youtube channel is brilliant. He’s a great teacher, so clear and to the point in his instructions.
OMG was I correct in that previous thread? Everyone was saying yellow, but I said take the orange exit by shifting into the outside land after passing the northern exit.
I’m such a terrible driver, I just assumed I must’ve been wrong. Although, I’m British, so maybe the law is different in the Republic?
This video isn’t clear at all. Just following that clip he shows a roundabout with two lanes at the exit and says you should exit in the right lane. This honestly makes sense to me as you could have someone coming from a nearer entry in the left lane, and you should stay right to allow them to exit too at the same time. I don’t see the benefit of exiting in the left lane at all, you’re really crossing lanes there and potentially cutting off someone who came from a nearer entry.
Most roundabouts with two lanes on exit now have solid white lines showing you where to go and they always point to the right lane if you’ve come that way.
Tbh I think the problem here is it isn’t specified in the rules of the road so it’s left up to people to interpret
Roundabouts have to be one of the greatest traffic control mechanisms ever, and this is a very good point — but not one that I’ve ever really come up against in half a million miles of driving. Maybe that means I’ve been doing it wrong. But by far the biggest problem with roundabouts is signalling. Why are people in-fucking-capable of switching to left indicator when they pass the second exit? Why do people indicate right when they’re going straight through? Not to mention the ones who don’t indicate at all, but they’re a problem on more than roundabouts.
I honestly thought it was a troll thread at first or some optical illusion involving road marking or colours on the diagram. But turns out I was looking to deeply into it, people just don’t know how roundabouts work.
This isnt the same situation, thats a single lane exit and he’s talking about positioning.
Yesterday’s post had two exit lanes.
By Dublin terms, I myself am a simple culchie (from Sligo town).
The roundabout at 6:28 looks like a horror show.
Can’t recommend Dane Tyghe’s YouTube channel enough. Really well explained videos that settled the nerves and helped me pass my test. Legend!
When would be the right time to exit at the yellow bear?
I like the [Subtitles ](https://i.imgur.com/qZPQtmj.jpg) best
That fella helped me so much 2 days before my driving test. I legit didn’t know some of the stuff he covered and I passed first go!
There’s a difference between your example and the question yesterday.
The initial example you show here is a dual lane into one lane.
Yesterday’s example was 2 lanes into 2 lanes.
The following example in your video is multi lane into multi lane where your instructor does maintain position on the right side exit.
Woo hoo I was right!
I went to college with Dane, he is the soundest guy!
