  1. That is misleading. What is hampered is increasing production capacity in Japan. That is it.

    The original article:

“TOKYO, July 20 (Reuters) – A U.S. plan to use Japanese factories to boost production of Patriot air defence missiles – used by Ukraine to defend against Russian attacks – is being delayed by a shortage of a critical component manufactured by Boeing, four sources said.

Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries [(7011.T), opens new tab](https://www.reuters.com/markets/companies/7011.T) (MHI) already makes about 30 PAC-3 missiles each year under licence from defence contractor Lockheed Martin [(LMT.N), opens new tab](https://www.reuters.com/markets/companies/LMT.N) and can increase that number to about 60, two Japanese government officials and two industry sources told Reuters.”

  2. As it is, Patriot missiles are amongst the tightest weapons supply chains in the world. Production is extremely limited, and almost 100% pre-allocated to existing orders.

  3. I read that as competence not component but I guess either way works.
