On June 14, parliament passed an immigration reform that will lead to a rise in the number of foreign workers. Non-Japanese currently make up just 2.8 percent of the population, a level far lower than in most other developed economies. Our correspondents report from Tokyo.

  1. It is simple. If you don't want migrants, produce children, if not shut up. Throughout history migration is a natural process that has occurred for a number of centuries ago. This kind of barbaric ways of thinking should not be in the 21st century.

  2. Don't compare france with Japan France is not even France anymore More than half of their population are foreigners who know in future they may kick out native France people out .

  3. You need to ask why these workers will endure hardships to live in Japan, why not go to America or other Asian countries. If you work as construction laborers, you can do that in any country. If conditions are so bad why stay in Japan, what is the draw?

  4. I am a resident of Japan.

Japan wants 技能実習生(Gino Jisshusei), not workers.

By law they are supposed to be hired under the same conditions as Japanese, but the reality is different. Many of them work for less than the legal salary and are forced to work long hours.

Most of them return to their home countries in tears without compensation or apologies.

Never come to Japan on an Jisshusei visa, it has a high probability of destroying your life.

  5. It broke my heart to see that Vietnamese worker get abused by his Japanese co-worker. So barbaric! I wonder if the bully was even held accountable.

  6. Because the Japanese population is declining, 70% are at the age of 70-100 years old, no young generation will going to work, no heritors.

  7. Because of these news, misconceptions and prejudice against Japan are spreading. Unfortunately, there are many people in this comment section who feel superior by putting Japan down. It is disgusting.

  8. Hello Japan don't make the same mistake as France. Be selective with immigrants, get immigrants from Christian countries only like the Philippines

  9. I'm Japanese.
why Japan used to be the 2nd biggest economy in the world is that company forced employees to work for long hours.
There was a phrase "are you able to work for 24 hours" in 1980s. and some of the companies still expect employees to work like that.
For some reasons, people from south east Asia think Japan is a great place to make money.
I always feel like why east Asian countries are rich is that we are expected to work for long hours, period.
If you come to work in Japan, plz remember some of the Japanese companies expect you to work harder with low pay. WLB gets bit better compared to the past though.

  10. Be careful, folks. Japanese people aren't friendly as you think. A majority of them are two-faced, and they will find faults even if there's nothing.

  11. Every day there is talk of labor shortage and visa to Japan is so difficult If Japan's work visa is easy to get, then the labor shortage will be solved, right?

  12. Some people come there to work, they don't get visas because visas are very difficult and they apply for political asylum visas, they are deported The Japanese people should give these work visas to those who have taken political asylum and make them legal in their country So that the labor shortage ends Because more people go to Japan on a visit visa for work And when the work visa is not available, they will take political asylum under compulsion So that they can work Therefore, I request the Japanese government to facilitate work visas and abolish political asylum visas To end Japan's labor shortage and create companies that employ people with work visas who are visiting Japan And give work visa to those who are on political asylum visa

  13. Most of the people visit Japan and look for companies through which they can get a work visa, but they don't find such companies, they have only created companies that are for those who are living in Japan on permanent visas. Above and how to get that permanent visa Many Pakistanis have set up their own companies in Japan and are selling visas on behalf of their companies to other Pakistanis for Rs 50 lakhs Now not everyone has 5 million rupees to buy a work visa from another Pakistani and can work there Therefore, I request the Japanese government to facilitate the work visa so that Japan's labor shortage ends

  14. Young Japanese don’t want children.
A 20 something said babies are disgusting next my wife and daughter (8 months old).
Elderly Japanese hate babies because they don’t like noise.
A man threatened me in the 新幹線 because my 3 year old son was crying.
Japanese society does not want children, it’s focused on providing benefits to the elderly to obtain votes (especially 自民党).
The Tohoku region’s largest city only has one truck driver younger than 55.
    The country has no future.

  15. Japan needs to shift focus to agriculture.

70% of their food comes from Imports.
This was ok when the Yen was strong, but now the Yen has more than halved, locals are bearing the brunt.

Japanese youth need to be ok with living rural family lives.

    But they wont.

Theyre too far down the techno-stimulation pool.

Also they do not have a culture of delayed gratification like other asian cultures, just more and more consumption.

    They need a culutral shift.
    Immigration is not the answer.

  16. Don't compare Japan with other countries. If you want to stay then stay, if you want to leave then leave.
I love Japan 🇯🇵 and I live in Japan 🇯🇵

  17. Japanese looks be stupid and bad against foreigners, that's scary, Japanese are the opposite what we see in anime, and at the same time, people will treat you as you treat them.

  18. Japan must remains for japanese and not accept foreigners! Foreigners whoever comes will bring their culture, mindset, behavior and religion which is absolutely negative… immigrants stay in your country!

  19. Here's the Problem Japan 55% taxes on all paychecks, work hard for half a paycheck, that's a government problem so Japanese people better be voting for the right people
