This August I will be traveling from Sofia to Thessaloniki. Since I love trains I would like to make the trip by train.
I read somewhere that the southbound line is discontinued, however the railroad website (https://www.bdz.bg/en) correctly reports the schedule and I have not found any negative information. In any case I see that several bus companies operate (such as Union-Ivkoni and Flixbus).
I would like to break the trip in two; I thought of Sandanski, but I am open to your suggestions on destinations or villages worth visiting that are reachable by train or bus.
