The Watersons were absolute magic at their best. Norma’s solo vocal on [Red Wine and Promises](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R62KBvEDg_c) from Lal and Mike Waterson’s *Bright Phoebus* – one of my favourite albums ever made and an absolute folk classic – is perfection. [Their group performance of All For Me Grog is heart-stoppingly beautiful, too.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5ZiLsZNTCY)
The [song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QNNfTU9KLE) Lal wrote, but she sang, regarding Freddie Mercury’s death and the treatment he recieved from Joe Haines, a Daily Mirror columnist who abused him after he came forward with his diagnosis, is stunning, too.
She leaves a great legacy, both her voice and her knowledge of traditional song.
Fantastic artist and matriarch of the resurgent British Folk scene. Will be missed but celebrated!
Very sad news. A massive name in British folk music.
