2. Just for context, DEFRA’s budget for 2024/25 is £4.6bn.

4. Do we get any of the money back we spent on the scheme? Im sure Rwanda said if we dont send anyone we get a refund so to speak

5. I’d love to know how many applicants they expected to send to Rwanda, even in the impossible Tory dreamworld where this actually happened at scale.

   £10,000,000,000 is a vast amount of money, and I’d love to know what they expected to spend per applicant, so it could be compared to the actual, practical costs of housing someone while they’re being assessed.

   Of course, we know that in reality the scheme cost £175,000,000 per person.

6. We should have probably sent Patel, Braverman, and Rishi back to Rwanda and saved us all some cash.

7. Disgusting scheme. Imagine getting bombed by your government, coming to Britain then ending up in a Rwandan detention centre. UK’s treatment of the world’s most vulnerable people is pure racism.

8. The sad thing is the Tories probably consider it good value for money. Look at all those column inches it generated for rabidly xenophobic newspapers, which would have had so little else to say. You can’t fill the Daily Mail entirely with transphobic screeching and Boris’ regurgitated ramblings.

10. I wonder where the figure on planning to spend £10bn came from. The Government are not allowed to see papers which reveal the preferences of previous administrations.

11. Its fucking atrocious that this was allowed to happen. In what reality did ANYONE think ‘oh yeah this is good value to the tax payers’

    I mean, I know they didn’t, but fuck me, things like this should not be allowed to happen until an independant body does a cost / benifit review! Which I think / hope is what Labour are saying will happen going forward.
