  1. SF system doesn’t seem to be any different from current government policy, and going by the article misses the key phrase “enforcing existing immigration law.”

The only difference is an audit of existing community resources, which is good but not enough

  2. In next weeks election bingo, Sinn Fein announces it will build 300,000 houses a year

  3. Personally I am quite disappointed in them not giving the local council a veto ability. Along with their approach could have been better. If they have to take in these people, due to obligation. Could we not have a detention facility established at the ports and airports and process the applicants all in there, so genuine cases get approved and can enter the state and the chancers get deported and no PPS or any state funding, welfare, accommodation etc …

  4. Bending in the wind, vote chasing exercise by SF, trying to say the right things but have already shown how they really think.

  5. MLMD will come out with a whale of shite about “the comprehensive paper”. She knows the EU has the govt by the balls, and we need to accept the quota we’ve been allocated.

  6. “Those are my principles, and if you don’t like them… well, I have others”

    > Local residents would be entitled to take part in a formal process of consultations, through which they would be able to submit their concerns, a source familiar with the new policy said, although the source stressed that nobody would have a veto on the location of facilities for asylum seekers.

    > The rationale behind the new system is to avoid placing accommodation centres in areas where local services are already under stress.

Yet we all know that’s not how it’d work: NIMBYs are bad enough without them also being polluted by racists or bigots worrying about `Single Unvetted Men` descending on their women and daughters. These centres have to go _somewhere_ and all this would cause would be even MORE delay in the system, not less.

We have processes in this country already, but the problem is to fix it requires more time, money and joined-up thinking to make the existing institutions work better; so of course that won’t be done ‘cos it takes effort.

  7. Sounds a bit pointless. Everywhere has a shortage of doctors, housing, social services etc.

Not approved in one area some other area gets them and has SF to thank.

Not sure they’ve thought this through.

  8. When he was in opposition, the joke about Leo Varadkar was that he would show up to the opening of a packet of crisps and promise you a tax break for opening it.

Mary-Lou seems to be operating to the same principle on different issues.

  9. Bad enough that the proposal is horsehite, nothing but the status quo with a bit more stalling in place, but got to love the throwing of Ukrainians under the bus as well.

Nothing but vote chasing by SF cause they got their cage rattled at the Locals and know they are no longer simply going to be coronated by virtue of not being FF or FG.

  10. This new immigration policy will have the people of Ballsbridge and Dalkey frothing at the mouth but I’m sure SF don’t give two single solitary fucks about them. Essentially, the policy booklet says they’ll take the refugee centres out of working class areas and put them in wealthy parts of Dublin where the resources are.

  11. For months people on this sub have been whinging about how a party need to get serious about the immigration crisis, and now that. party have adapted a policy to attempt to solve a crisis that have started in the last year, people are still whinging.

Further proof this place is filled with people who just want to moan

  12. It’s funny that the picture is the face I made upon reading the headline.

  13. Mary Lou at the moment.

She needs to go or the party won’t even hold the current number of TDs.

  14. Me: Sinn Fein is a bandwagon party and that makes for a terrible government, they flip flop on positions instead of holding firm.

Shinners: That’s bullshit, the have great policies and literally never do what you’re saying.

Sinn Fein: So we’ve completely changed our stance on immigration.

  15. I am not sure what the ‘goal’ of this new policy is but it doesn’t seem very different to what the current government are trying to do. It feels like it trying to offend no one and please no one. It doesn’t feel much different but an audit of local services sounds good compared to some of the stupid decisions we have seen. However I feel like the same decisions would be made as everyone in charge doesn’t know what to do.

  16. SF will also give anyone who votes for them a free iPhone

But if you don’t like iphones they hate them too and will give you an Android instead.
