I Do Wish Cycle Hire Was Cheaper in London

  1. I wish they didn’t exist. Had three whizz past me on the fucking pavement in 6 minutes at a bus stop. Pricks.

  2. £7.33 to look like a tit and increase the chances of a lorry driving over your face.

    Unreal.

    Can’t stand London anymore.

  3. that’s a great way to get robbed, given that London is THE heaven for thieves. that open basket is the most inviting for thieves 🤣 you won’t even see when they snatch whatever you put in there.

  4. You can prepay rather than pay by the minute and save a tonne. This guys a bit dim

  5. Just out of curiosity, do a lot of people in Barcelona irrationally hate hire bikes, push them over any chance they get, toss them into canals or rivers, steal and break them etc? Because I suspect Londoners horrible attitude towards hire bikes, and bicycles in general, drives up the cost a bit.

  6. > London is not a real place anymore.

Honestly, do people have to be so dramatic? There are so many options, including a 24 hour Lime Pass for £9.99 which you absolutely won’t use in a week, and Santander bikes which are £1.65 per half an hour. Hardly prohibitively expensive, certainly not enough to decry London ‘is not a real place’. Dude needs to spend more time cycling, less time being a princess. Does wonders for stress levels.

  7. You need to buy a lime bike pass not PAYG and you can get it down as cheap as £0.09 a minute, so a 30 min ride will be just under 3 quid which is a bit better but still needs to be cheaper really

  8. Lime Bikes should be banned or forced to be docked, the way Lime and Uber is allowing to be dumped on the streets is outrageous and frankly dangerous too

  9. And you know since Dara is running a gigantic asshole of a company he probably parked it in the middle of a pavement during pick up time at a nursery school.

  10. London is one of the best cities to get around by bike. It’s just such a shame that I feel forced into using a bike rental scheme because every bike I’ve ever had has been stolen (or parts of it have been)

  11. I get 70% off Lime, it’s still the same price as crossrail!

Costs me £2 to go from Stratford to central, ridiculous prices

  12. Agreed, cycling should be more accessible. Any tips on navigating London on a budget

  13. I got an e-bike through Cycle to Work instead. I get a better bike for less money than he’s paying.

  14. These bikes are a fucking scourge. *Every single day* I have to report them parked outside our building. People just leave them all over the place, blocking wheelchairs and pram users, bottlenecking the already limited space on the pavement and constantly falling into the road. I even get the odd person just parked right in front of our door and I’m the one who’s got to deal with them all the time. There’s usually 10-15 parked there at any time too. The fact they can be parked pretty much anywhere in most places is the problem.

  15. They incentivise you to get a subscription, like with most things these days.

You could also just ride them anyway like all the youths seem to do.

  16. LIME isnt in Barcelona – so its a false comparison.

I can ride a Boris bike for £2 a day (in 30min chunks)

    AMBici bike pricing..

    Hire periods for bicycles
The first 30 minutes of each rental period is included (€0.15 from 2024). After the first 30 minutes, you will pay €0.50 for each additional 30 minute period, up to a maximum of 2 hours. If you exceed 2 hours, you will have to pay €5 for each additional hour.

  17. Take your lime bike and stick it up your a*se.
I’m so fed up of the danger these bikes and riders cause, with idiots who don’t know the rules of the road, so they cycle on the pavement. Young kids having to jump out the way. Sadiq has really got the London transport situation under control.

  18. I’ve gone from an early user and a big supporter of hire bikes to being totally against them, thanks to lime and the dickheads that use them. Same with scooters.

  19. the alarm on Lime bikes is the fucking theme tune of london, it’s ridiculous.

  20. Some fucking moron left one in front of a fire exit door of some flats near my work. Looked at me like I was mad when I suggested they didn’t do that.

  21. Santander hire is £120 per year.    I think that is great value 👍

I can’t lock my road bike outside so explored annual subscription costs but have managed to rescue a rusty old 1980s bike from the dump.   Cleaned up and new rim tape, tubes, tyres cost me £45.   So well under £120 hire cap.

I’ll probably have to replace brake pads and cables but will see how it rides once the tubes & tyres arrive.

The bike has surface rust and is heavy and old style, with mudguards and a rusty rack to carry the U-lock.   Hopefully low theft risk and should ride a lot better than a hire bike.

  22. Probably they wouldn’t be so filthy expensive if they had parking spots, instead of paying people to go and retrieve them from all over the city…and our streets wouldn’t look like bikes graveyards.

  23. What’s worse is he could buy a bike, lock etc. and it would pay for itself within a month of daily use. What a twit.

  24. It’s a joke. The forest bikes are way cheaper but sadly cover a fraction of the area lime does.

  25. It’s now £6.99 for 60 minutes with a ridepass depending on your commute it’s more then public transport at the moment, there was a time not very long ago that it was cheaper

  26. And what’s more, you can use the city bikes in Barcelona to get away from the people shooting water pistols at you.

  27. Bloody ripoff and their whole business model is using up public space to make their private money ripping us off.
