The SNP pledged to force a vote on the issue and they’ve delivered. All eyes now on the Labour leadership & the newly elected Scottish Labour MPs (reminder: Only last week Anas Sarwar urged Starmer to scrap it)
Given the SNP have been driven out of the central belt, and their consistencies are rich rural areas in the North, why do they care about this? No one who votes them are poor enough to care about two children limits.
SNP trying to push more ridiculously unpopular legislation from their political bubble.
It’ll fail and you know how he’ll respond to that.
The SNP clearly don’t understand or care about why they got skelped and don’t appear to want to change. May 2026 tick tock.
Rachel Reeves, the chancellor, has [given the impression](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4ng572nnvwo) that the £3bn cost of removing the cap is the most significant factor preventing it being scrapped, as the money has to be found somewhere and that has not been done.
It will be interesting to see if the SNP has managed to find the money somewhere, and, if they have, whether their argument that it should be spent on lifting the cap is persuasive.
Lets hope Labour will understand the anger of the honest working class at the sponger/criminal underclass.
Maybe the SNP could provide the source of the funds to do so. Though I hear they are pretty hard up themselves these days.
You know, it’s such a mind boggle when you start talking about policy alongside names. All throughout this sub and in the bigger UK sub, whenever the topic of the child benefits cap comes up the comments are almost always in favour of removing it. It’s only when the SNP gets named, or an SNP MP, that people suddenly say “Actually no we can’t remove it…” for some reason.
Check out the comments [on this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scotland/comments/1e7s4mb/sarwar_defends_starmers_unwillingness_to_scrap/) and compare them to here. On the other post, the sub is almost unanimously against the cap; now on a post where SNP are trying to do something, the comments are far more mixed and disapproving here.
I hope it’s voted down. If you have more than 2 children and can’t look after them then that is really your own fault, the only area we should support is if parents are separated and they need help.
The thing is tho, do well earning families with 4/5/6 kids needed to be taking £100 per child from the government if the cap gets scrapped? No. It should be means tested.
No qualms for those that struggle bit not for those that don’t.
