Contrary to nationalist narratives, Bonnie Prince Charlie wasn’t popular even amongst Scots. He had the support of the some clans but when he moved south to Glasgow, those in charge basically wanted nothing to do with him but they paid the Prince off in fear of what might happen if they refuse his demands.
