UK government to prevent MPs taking on lobbying jobs

1. Seems to strike the right balance to me. Some people need to keep qualifications up to date, and also to be honest I think some jobs help MPs remain grounded in working life. Working as a nurse will remind you of the state of the NHS, and the pressure people are under, etc for example.

   I do think at some point a restriction on the number of hours spent in second jobs would make sense. If you’re working 40 hours a week on your second job you can’t be fulfilling your MP role to the best of your ability or a way your constituents deserve.
