As someone who studied Latin for 7 years and earned pretty much every Latin degree my country has to offer. I can constitute that this would only make things unnecessarily difficult fir everyone.

Actually, imo English is the best language *because* no one in the EU uses it as their primary language. French or German would give the impression either one is superior or the leader, and non-natives speaking with natives will in many cases be or feel looked down upon for their inferior language skills. Having everyone be equally bad at the common language ensures equality
