I wouldn’t listen to those people! The host has a lot to do with it and they have had some weird host as of late.
Awwww. Poor baby.
Who’s Bowen Yang ?
It’s really refreshing to hear an SNL alum speak honestly about the job and not awkwardly praise it as if it’s still the most relevant, greatest piece of comedic entertainment in all of media.
It just doesn’t make much sense to me how it’s considered the greatest opportunity of all time for a young comedian when 99% of the time actors get pigeonholed and end up only being associated with SNL. If you watch the show these days aside from a small handful of Weekend Update quips (which are usually just paraphrased from random Tweets), every skit is some variation of “someone dresses up in a Spirit Halloween costume and badly reads off cue cards”.
Boo hoo
Maybe if he was actually funny he would hear some praise
Someone tell Lorne to swap him out for someone more grateful for the opportunity
All these people shitting on him in the comments when SNL is objectively cringe. I say that as a huge fan who watches every episode. Even the best episodes have a ratio of maybe 3 or 4 good sketches versus 2 or 3 duds. I mean watch the sketch from last season where they brought out Nikki Haley and tell me it’s not cringe
SNL has become an example of lazy leftist ragebait media. It feels weird to have millionaires writing jokes for marginalized people about marginalized people, who they dont even understand. The comedy isnt very inspired and it shows in the cast. Its gotten lazy and there’s clearly a mean girls vibe to the cast back stage. There hasnt been a single alum that’s come out with a good thing to say about working there.
Bowen and Chloe Fineman are the MJ and Pippen of unwatchable television
Im not a comedy nut but I feel like SNL sketches always over-extend the punchline of the premise.
If they’re lucky enough to hit gold in the first minute, they drag it one for another five, when two minutes would suffice.
It peaked lonnnnng ago but I would say it hasn’t even been *funny* in at least a decade
He should be careful not to shit where he eats.
Didn’t he write that Hooters sketch for Sydney Sweeney?
It hasn’t been good since the 90’s
It’s more evident now that the host really sells the episode. But the key will always be writing. I think there were a few seasons lately that were weak but they’ve had a good last season.
Personally I feel that Bowen is given the laziest characters in skits. Not given a lot of range. Basically a typecast, which can stifle an actors ability to grow.
Cuz it does suck
People need to learn about the schedule writers have on SNL, it’s nuts! After learning about it, I’m impressed they can squeeze out a few ideas. Before you comment learn what the writers and actors go through each week. How they can sustain that (sober?!?! Pssh) for a whole season is quite a feat.
It’s too bad because Bowen is one of the bright spots since he started on SNL.
I feel like the hit-rate peaked in the late 80s. Not by much, there are always peaks and valleys, but the professionalism of that crew was so strong, a veteran group that brought it all the time and didn’t have one foot out the door every year.
