Seriously how can such an entity be forced to have gender balance?
Every member state has the right to name a Commissioner, von der Leyen cannot demand that a certain member state name a male or a female.
How about we focus on competence instead of deciding based on with what instrument they pee?
I guess that’s unfathomable for von der Leyen.
What is a woman?
As always: only competence matters. At the very least politics should maintain the semblance of striving towards meritocracy, instead of focusing on frivolous goals.
Doesn’t sound much like democracy.
I think gender quotas are necessary to create a more inclusive, empathetic and feminine environment. It’s like if you sow a seed in a swamp – it rots. You can’t expect for women to get there on their own in this environment. Women need to be protected so that they can truly shine and become what they were most gifted to be – custodians of this planet Earth.
There is no time to experiment in the middle of geopolitical conflicts. There was time for it in the calm of the past decades.
If we are half a foot into utopia, then we will have time to pay more attention to such things.
When you elect clowns you get a circus. There should never be a secert vote in democracies.
Gender balance? The president has been a woman for two mandates now. Where’s the balance? Per her own sexist (moronic) view her role now should’ve been done by a man.
Von Der Leyen represents everything that’s wrong with the EU and I don’t mean just this one thing.
This isn’t the process for achieving this goal (taking away national power in an underhanded way like this), but the Commission should be representative. The way this works in national politics is that parties play by unofficial rules and work towards this goal. It’s more difficult in this case, but a good goal could be for countries to try and vary their representation from term to term. I understand that it doesn’t necessarily create equally distributed Commissions, but it could be the first step which allows for other steps and ultimately more representative commissions.
The same could go for the other positions within the EU that are considered to be within the top echelon.
This is part of how the EU ended up so weak, quality>diversity
She is a nasty cunt
I am all for inclusivity, but this is getting out of hand. Are we picking the best people, or are we just gonna fill in quotas now?
*”Oh, we are sorry, you are literally the best candidate, but we are looking for a (fe)male.”*
Really whichever party she is from in the current situation that is one of the last things that should be discussed.
