    1,113 decisions issued (of which 362 are “positive decisions”).

    ~22,000 pending submissions. So a backlog of about 10 months, growing at about 0.5 months-worth EACH MONTH.

    We need to process more applications each month, and process them efficiently (I don’t want to say “quicker” because rushed justice is not proper justice).

  17. I looked at the actial EU source report which is for 2023 at latest. On page 10 it shows ireland also bang in the middle of the stats.

  19. Is this the factor of immigrants coming in from the UK or how are those claiming asylum getting here? We’re an island nation and only way in is flight or ferry.

Why can’t we just go back to the rules which all of this stupidity is based on, the UN convention on refugees, under which you are required to seek asylum in the first safe nation you arrive in, and invalidate any future asylum claim if you move on to another country. I have all the time in the world for helping and accommodating people who are legitimately fleeing warfare and a genuine threat to their life, but they are not the individuals going on welfare shopping trips across the western world

  29. They pull the data in from the Irish Government site as noted in the DATA TABLES tab: [https://ipo.gov.ie/en/ipo/pages/statistics](https://ipo.gov.ie/en/ipo/pages/statistics) so we can actually see a little more recent data for Ireland and see what June 2024 has looked like.
    June was actually the lowest number of applications this year year at 270/million. Looking at the longer term figures, it perhaps looks like Mar/Apr/May were a bit of an anomaly and we might be reverting back towards the post Feb 2022 mean, but it’s hard to tell as the site doesn’t let us easily check the historical monthly charts so you have to build that data yourself.
