He was likely offered Ivermectin through his doctor. They are doing trials exploring Ivermectin and Favipiravir as treatment for the COVID-19 virus.
When I got covid recently my doctor offered me to take part in the trial via text so they must be offering it to people when the positive PCR goes on their record

The makers of Ivermectin conducted their own trials on covid and found it didn’t work against it. They also helped in the production of the vaccination that did work.
