[OC] The suicide rate is four times higher for men than for women

2. What locale? US? World? UN? SA?

3. How much higher is the murder rate for men than women?

4. People usually point out that women report more attempted suicides than men, but don’t succeed as often. I wonder how much of that is also men choosing not to report suicide ideation or failed attempts. Maybe men actually do think about suicide more then women, but are conditioned to not talk about it.

5. It would be interesting to know the reason for each suicide categorised.

8. I honestly think gender wars has cost us so deeply in this area.

   Men and women trade shots and digs, and in between women are abused by asshole men, and good men commit suicide with very little effort to resolve either issue.

   I genuinely believe if men and women could lower the temperature we could probably get more sorted in these two areas.

9. From studies I’ve read, men are more likely to be isolated and lonely. Men also tend to have more societal pressure to attain a certain level of success, and are more likely to be called failures if they don’t attain it. 

10. Who would’ve thought that the social media pressure to make minimum 6 figures, be at least 6 foot tall and look like a model if you’re a guy today would make men suicidal.

    Crazy unexpected.

15. Thanks for sharing this. It is similarly grim in many other countries. I live in NZ and the male suicide rate is 3-4 times of women as well and it doesn’t nearly get enough attention.

16. Men also murder at a higher rate and are victims of murder at a higher rate. Seems like society socializes us to treat violence against men as more acceptable no matter if it is self-directed or other-directed.

17. A friend of mine committed suicide at 19 years old. None of us saw it coming until it was too late. Please please please look after the people you care about

19. I’m curious if this is controlling for ‘unwitting’ or ‘accidental’ suicide – or it this is only ‘intentional’.

20. I wouldn’t have guessed that the women’s rate peaks in middle age.

21. I would imagine because women generally don’t have to be alone if they don’t want to be. Loneliness is a silent killer.
