  1. It’s good that these brave soldiers did the impossible and launch an operation to save themselves. We salute your bravery!!!!

  2. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2024/07/25/a-day-after-getting-surrounded-near-prohres-two-ukrainian-battalions-overruled-their-commander-and-fought-their-way-to-safety/) reduced by 80%. (I’m a bot)

    > A day after getting surrounded and cut off by advancing Russian troops just north of the village of Prohres, two battalions of Ukrainian soldiers from the Ukrainian army's 31st Mechanized Brigade made a hard decision.

    > The Russian advance toward Prohres began last week after Russian warplanes "Carried out powerful air strikes on the tactical rear," according to the Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies.

    > As Ukrainian troops fled, a clutch of motor rifle regiments from the Russian 1st Army Corps seized the opportunity-and marched four miles to the west in the span of a week, ultimately capturing Prohres and sweeping around those two Ukrainian battalions north of the village.

  3. This is best news this week. Frankly this has been lingering in my mind over the last few days.

  4. That’s good. Also, didn’t the chief want them safe as well?

There’s no point of holding some useless fronts. Get them out and try a different tactic.

  5. Good, it’s easy to send men to die from a cosy office. Their Commander would have done the same if his ass was on the line.

  6. Where was this brigade commander located, anyone know?

  7. Read about it yesterday and expected something like this. Surprised they weren’t ordered to retreat given how dire their situation would have been if the Russians secured the encirclement

  8. Surrounded? According to Sun Tzu, that gives those troops a morale boost, as they’re fighting for their lives.

  9. If you have a almost certainty of death or worse you might as well go out with such a bang as to be remembered and hope for the best. I’m extremely glad they made it out.

  10. We need to here more about what is happening in Ukraine. Here in the US we are praying you win this war 💙

  11. That commander better get a few hours alone and unarmed with the battalion he wanted to screw over
