2. I get that Turkey got into NATO because of its location. But do we *still* need it for our defense? Is Turkey really crucial to NATO?

   Honest question, what would happen if we would just get rid of Turkey?

   Turkey seems to be more of a burden than an asset, these days. NATO needs to be reshaped, and Europe/The EU should be an independent part of NATO, able to defend itself. Turkey should never be part of that. Ever.
