    >The French railway network has apparently been attacked in several places. The state railway company SNCF stated that it had been the victim of “several simultaneous malicious acts”. Several connections on the express train network in France were affected.

    >According to the railway company, “arson attacks were carried out that damaged our facilities”. SNCF Réseau teams are already on site to carry out the diagnosis and begin repairs. The “situation is expected to last at least the whole weekend while the repairs are carried out”, they say. Traffic on the Atlantic, Northern and Eastern axes is particularly affected. “We are rerouting certain trains on conventional routes, but will have to cancel the majority of them,” the SNCF said.

    >According to France Info, the Montparnasse station website reported delays of at least half an hour on Friday morning for TGV trains travelling from Paris to Bordeaux, Toulouse and La Rochelle. TGV trains from Nantes, Rennes and Tours to Paris Montparnasse were also delayed by between 30 minutes and almost two and a half hours.

    >Pictures from Paris railway stations showed large crowds of people waiting for their trains. There is talk of delays and cancellations. The Olympic Games begin today in Paris.

    >Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete wrote on Platform X: “I strongly condemn these criminal actions, which will affect the departure of many French people on holiday.”

  2. TLDR:

Russia runs massive attack on French railway facilities including arson. Trains running 30 minutes late.

(Okay it doesn’t say Russia, I added that)

  3. Russian attacks on French soil? Time to bring the war to Moscows doorstep.

  4. Russian embasssy is allowed to stay open, I presume?

Edit. And Russian athlethes are allowed into the games, which is just ridiculous, seeing how heavily Russia politicizes the Olympics and how rhey have been caught using state doping and never proven to have changed away from that.

Russian participation is ruining the olympics from the start, change my mind.

  5. Time to start treating them like they treat us or at the very least chuck every last one of the out of the west.

  6. Direct action unfortunately can’t be on the table because Russia has nukes, but we can also play this game. The West has vastly superior capabilities in the field of cyberattacks and the like and we should actually use that to thoroughly disrupt the Russian economy. We can’t just tolerate such attacks.

  7. It’s not 30 minutes late. I’m at the Gare Montparnasse, all trains (including mine) are delayed for more than 2h, and a lot of them will be cancelled according to the announcements.

The train company is asking for those who can to cancel or reschedule their trains, and saying things will be normalized only on Monday.

Nobody’s speaking about an attack at the station, but a “malicious act”. I imagine it’s to avoid panic.

  8. Russia just doing russian things, acting like a geopolitical manchild flipping tables after losing their game of Monopoly.

  9. I wonder why European countries do not retaliate in tone to these provocations. Too cowardly?

  10. When will EU admit we are at a cyber warfare with Russia (and probably also China)

  11. It‘s going to be a shit show isn’t it? I don‘t understand why any Western country, let alone France, would like to host the Olympics in these times. You could argue that they applied before RU/UKR and the Gaza War but even without those events France security situation was already sketchy.

    I hope Germany‘s bid for 2040 fails.

  12. If Russia is found to be behind this, then France would be well into their rights in asking for a coordinated response to such an attack.

  13. Now you’ve got a whole lot of people packed at stations. Get them out of there.

  14. Unrelated, a lingering smell of makhorka was detected near the sites of the attack.

  15. I hate Russia so much. How can a country be such a useless burden to the world. Nothing good comes from there except the will to disrupt the world by being an annoyance with nukes. I really hope that country cannabalizes itself and implodes one day.

  16. It turns out Russia is in the Paris Olympics after all, one way or another

  17. In Slovenia, this could never happen.

Our trains are already so slow and late, that literally no one would be distressed.
Also it would be tough to attack the communication hub, because most of the schedules are still printed on paper.

    Good luck, people of France

  18. I don’t think it was Russia. There are more islamic fundamentalists with a chip on their shoulders in France than there are disgruntled russians. Why are we not looking in that direction?

  19. Its the domestic dissidents France has been importing for the last 30 years.

Its coming to bite them in the arse now.

    Its not the Russians, lmao.

  20. I thought maybe people wanted to show that they don’t like being the host, just like every other city that have withdrawn from it. However it probably wouldn’t be so organized and they wouldn’t cause fires…

  21. Russia/Putin being petty about their ban (even if their athletes can still play “without flag”) – so they literally burning/attacking infrastructure to make it difficult on the host country and its image, and generate chaos.

    What a wonderful country
