  1. The only thing they would get, is the burned earth that they caused.

  2. If you think this nonsense makes sense consider what happened in Afghanistan. It took days for the Taliban to conquer the whole country. Armies can fall apart very fast especially if political decision are made.

  3. I am sure Putin cares about the loss of life, he said with much sarcasm.

  4. 1.8 million troops dead? I’m sure this is a sacrifice Putin is willing to make.

    For the Motherland…

  5. The problem with Ukraine and Europe is that, even if those figures were remotely true, 5 years and 1.8 million men are nothing for Russia.

We’re nearly 2.5 years into this senseless war that was supposed to last a week and Russia’s losses might be half a million. Has anything changed in Russia? Nothing at all. On the contrary, support for Putin and the war are at all-time highs. There are millions of men willing to sacrifice themselves in what they see as an existential war against the “evil west”.

Long story short, unless Europe and the US seriously step up military aid to Ukraine or disrupt Russia’s oil and gas industry, this war can go on for many more years. Never forget that for nearly all Russians, foreigners cannot be friends or allies. You’re either an enemy or a subordinate, there is nothing in between.

  6. Putin: “so you are saying that there is still a chance?”

  7. Thats all? Putin would sign up for that in a heartbeat. Demographics and population are crashing in Russia, and the war isn’t helping, but it won’t be an impossibly critical issue for the country in Putin’s lifetime.

He would trade double those lives probably without thinking twice to win.

  8. once you take then land, then comes the hard part. occupation. rebuilding, and providing for the remaining populace. and if you just anger them, then you create even more insurgents.

and these insurgents are better armed than most standing armies.

  9. Okay, I could see that. Russia invests its basic net worth, grinding down Ukrainian resistance in the conquered territories, meanwhile the west gradually reduces military aid due to domestic financial ‘restraints’ while getting on in the world and supplying Ukraine with ever more sophisticated hardware.

  10. “So you’re saying that … I have a chance?”

    Putin, probably

  11. And Putin is very okay with that because it fits perfectly into Russia’s historic military doctrine…if not winning, throw more meat at it

  12. I am genuinely asking what is the Russians “legitimate” claims in this war ?

  13. Take it harder. One hundred and eighty million.

  14. Guess what: Russia is likely to be willing to pay that price.

  15. Millions of Russians dead and countless wealth and treasures lost, all for a piece of barren dirt

  16. 1.8 million men, dead for nothing but the ambitions of a terrorist dictator

  17. Surely this will do wonders for the already aging population? kill all the young people and force the old buggers into the factories and offices.

  18. >Russia would lose up to 1.8 million troops

Putin is probably willing to sacrifice that many too, that’s the scary part.

  19. Cue to Vladimir Farquaad: “Millions of you might die, but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make”

  20. I love how they justify this was as a mean “to protect Russians abroad” while sending hundred of thousands of them in a literal meat grinder

  21. Sounds like somebody read the standard 40k imperial army manual and thought: *”Hell yeah, lets do it!”*

  22. P.: “Only 1.8, eh?”

*Putin starting conference call with China and North Korea*
