Hosting the Olympics has become financially untenable, economists say

1. Come on, so obvious. What else is new?!

2. It has been the country equivalent of hosting a potlatch. You only want to do it once.

3. It’s as if these events weren’t meant to be for financial gain

   States organize it.

   Selected corporations make full pockets. Obviously.

   Tickets and other earnings only cover a portion of it.

   The rest, the big difference written in red at the bottom line? Guess who pays it, my fellow schmucks.

5. Last I heard it leaves every place in debt and with a bunch of wasted buildings. Except SLC where they use all their Olympic buildings.

6. Here’s a crazy idea.

   Why not use existing facilities and stadiums, rather than constructing a mini city for every Olympics.

   Also the competitors participating can pay for their own accommodation and transport to and from the events.

   It’s just fucking sport. There’s no reason why “8 dudes running 100 metres to see who is fastest” needs to cost billions of dollars.
