Surveillance capitalism

Surveillance capitalism is a concept in political economics which denotes the widespread collection and commodification of personal data by corporations. This phenomenon is distinct from government surveillance, although the two can be mutually re-informing. Surveillance capitalism uses facial recognition, voice analysis, web analytics and advertising psychology to modify and drive consumer behavior.

So I had a problem loading a webpage for a general healthcare provider I needed to get into to provide insurance information. So I hit F12 and opened up a console to see why the webpage would not load and came across an app called Aural.

Aural could not open because of some cookie setting I had. So I just decided to do a google to see if anything came up and this did.

So this is allegedly voice analysis software used for a neurologist to determine various disorders and injuries through speech analytics. This is used for all kinds of healthcare apps for brain injury and mood disorders, mental health etc. This is all completely legitimate.

I live in a single party state for voice recording. So I can record a conversation we have had without your knowledge or permission and it may be admissible in court.

My healthcare provider is a huge healthcare system that provides anything and everything so it makes sense that they would have this somewhere. You can do VOIP and have a convo with your doc.

Data mining the public for private use is okay these days. However, new laws need to be written to protect the consumer regardless of whether or not "I am in your store" so there is the question of ownership.

How will the ownership of your personal data be economized and are you due any consideration for your "property" your personal data? How will this change our economy? Is this okay?
