  1. An interesting discussion that shines a spotlight on RTE accountants cooking the books and messaging the figures for years.

  2. RTE should be abolished and replaced by a minimal service.

  3. Double the number of staff needed according to an insider.

  4. He’s a fucking troll and shit stirrer.
Him and his waffle about bailouts always seems to ignore his one when he left the country avoiding paying back fully his own debts.

  5. Private media are just pissed they didn’t get a bailout. If they got that money they’d be saying nothing.

  6. This would explain RTEs point blank refusal to report on John McGahon over the last month.

The last year has seen me go from “scale it down a bit, control wages, and allocate funds better” to “remove it entirely, and start over”. It’s beyond saving.

  7. Everybody who has sources in government will confirm what Ivan is saying. My mum is elderly and lives down the country and RTE is on all day. A lot of people of her generation lack the necessary critical thinking skills to evaluate what they see and hear which makes RTE perfect for spouting off pro government waffle.

  8. Is /r/Ireland on the cusp of figuring out why the funding model was the way it was?

  9. Ivan Yeats lecturing people on how to run a business is quite something. The man is one of the few that ran a gambling organisation into the ground and then left the country without paying debts.

RTE is a shitshow and needs drastic reorganization. The place is bulked with mediocrity. However the state needs a public media company and a lot of the reporting RTE does is actually fantastic. The interviewers hold the government ministers accountable, which is unfortunately dead in places like the US and it’s getting there in the UK. It also produces fantastic prices like the Casey doc recently. We need RTE. We just need it to be a lot better.

  10. What is it about a certain age of ex politician/journo going mad for conspiracy theories. I suppose as someone who ran his business into the ground and is a bankrupt he might not understand that RTE is a semi-state. I’m sure it is bloated but it’s a heavily unionised business like most semi states. Different issue.
