I am kind of frustrated because I spent what is now unnecessary money trying to get the electric screwdriver that could work.

I was using the Bosch screwdriver which I got from Kleinanzeige but since it could not drill the hole then I bought the Lux screwdriver but still am not getting anywhere. I have the bits used for walls made of blocks and that of wood.

I already bought curtains from ikea that I need to hang and I don’t even have the receipts anymore because if this continues I might look for an alternative.

Any ideas?

  4. What kind of material is the wall made of. This greatly effects the kind of drill and drill head you need to use.

    Notice that a screwdriver is not the right toll to drill in holes except maybe into wood.

  5. I really am not well versed in handiwork but I am pretty sure you need a power drill to actually drill a hole into a brick wall, an electric screwdriver will not be enough.

  9. You need to drill a hole with a driller. The screw driver is for screwing, not drilling

  10. You use toys where you ned to use tools. try a SCHLAGBOHRMASCHINE. it’ll go in like a hot knife through butter.

  11. it’s right above the window / door, there is a „Sturz“ installed to support the wall above the window. This is mostly a combinations of bricks and concrete. You need a hammer drill to make a hole.

  12. As others already said, you need a proper Bohrmaschine. But you don’t necessarily need to buy one. Some Baumärkte (Hardware store?) offer rental for powertools. Or your Neighbours may borrow you one for a day.

  13. Proper gear + you may have hit the circular beam which is a beam of steel in middle and upper levels of multi story buildings installed for building stability. In that case you need to look for alternative ways to hang anything on your desired height or consider hanging whatever from further up or down or from the ceiling.

  14. You would need an impact drill and not a screw driver.

  15. The wrong tool will always lead to shitty results. E.g., try opening a window with a hammer. It’ll work, but the result sucks.

    Before you go onto spend more euros on another machine (hammerdrill/bohrmachine).

    You can try again. With the first drill bit with the wider end, in the box that has bricks symbols on it.

  17. Apart from the other advice for getting a Schlagbohrmaschine, you’re also going to need to get a drill bit that is made for concrete

  18. Dude, with these tools you barely scratch the surface of most walls in germany, you need impact drill.

  19. Because of the massive reinforced concrete lintel above the door.

    You’ll need serious tools for that.

  20. Because a screwdriver is not for drilling holes. It is – maybe comes as a surprise, but – for drive screws. Buy a proper driller for wood, and an impact driller for avergae concrete walls. A battery screwdriver has the impact force of a baby.

    And stop using Bosch, it’s close to useless. Buy a Makita driller, and an impact driller, if you just use them occasionally, even your grandkids will use them.

  21. Everybody said this,but I’ll repeat it, in your pics you’re showing electric screwdrivers. To hang your curtains you’d need a drill. IKEA sells some curtains that can be installed with no drill (although the quality is low)

  23. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I will get a better drill and give it a try. Can I still return the Lux Tool driver? I already tried to use it. I hope they won’t be mad at me. I have been buying, exchanging and returning stuffs the whole of this week.

  24. As others already explained – proper tools are key. Do you know a person you could ask for help? Borrowing from a person might be possible, or if they don’t trust you with their (likely expensive) tools they might be willing to come over and drill a few holes for your curtains.

  26. Those are not nearly strong enough. The area you’re trying to drill into is the window lintel. In German houses, that’s usually made out of brick, i.e. it’s super hard. Not even a regular drilling machine will work here, let alone screwdrivers. You will need an impact/hammer drill. You can rent it from hardware stores. Also, make sure there’s no power cords. They sometimes run close to the ceiling in a parallel way. Use an ammeter and check.

  27. The walls are solid. You will need an actual drill machine with a hammer function, and by the way, drilling into the ceiling is another level of frustration^^

    You will also need rawlplugs and their respective screws.

    Furthermore, you can rent the drill at any Obi, Globus or similar stores. And you can get help in those stores with choosing the right drill machine, drill, rawlplug and screws.

    P.S. In most cases, you should be able to rent the drill machine only, not the actual drill. The drill you have to buy. There are different types of drills of different quality that are made for different kind of walls.

  28. To hang curtains you will need a hammer drill with the right bit size. You will then need an anchor or Dübel. Then, screw in the rod.

  29. People have already mentioned a hammer drill – and they are right.

    If you dont want to deal with that, and there is a fairly good surface area on the things you want to mount to the wall, you can maybe get away with some “montagekleber”. It is like 5EUR in bauhaus for Pattex Kleben Statt Bohren. It is incredibly strong and very easy to work with. Put it on, press whatever object you want to attach to the wall for 5 minutes. Let it harden over night. Presty.

    It *does* require two relatively straight and clean surfaces as well as a certain area in relation to the weight it has to hold.

  30. If you want to drill, you need a drilling machine, not a screwdriver. No need to buy it if you don’t need it often, here you can usually rent tools from a DIY store. I’m sure it’s the same in Germany, as we have the same store chains.

  32. Unless it’s metal you should be able to get it done with enough pressure and time. Make sure you’re using a stone drill bit and it’s not a Sunday! The people here aren’t wrong, though. A hammer drill is the way to do it.

  33. You already got your answer. Just some more tips:

    1. Ask the hardware store employees.
    2. Buy power tools used if you don’t need them often.

    I still have a 30 year old Bosch Bohrmaschine which I bought for like 40€ and it works just fine and is really powerful
