This is Freya and she is a British military veteran who is now a sniper in Ukraine’s International Legion. She has been serving since January 2023. In November 2023 she was seriously injured. She has recovered and is now back serving again. Her reputation among fellow soldiers is pretty stellar. Basically she is as badass as she sounds.
Freya has requested help getting night vision for herself and as many other teammates as we can. We are hoping to get her a PVS monocular 14. Why does she need night vision and why are we fulfilling so many requests for night vision lately? I’m going to do my best to explain the situation.
1. The International Legion and other teams with foreign fighters have taken the highest casualties since the full-scale invasion began. I don’t have the exact figure but it’s extremely high. Please keep in mind we cannnot always announce names or give exact numbers for OPSEC reasons.
2. The casualty rates are primarily higher due to the threat of FPV drones and because these teams are on assault missions. For the past few weeks I’ve been in Ukraine meeting with the teams we support asking them what do they need to combat this threat. One answer is anti-drone measures. The other is night vision. Drones are not as much of a threat at night. Teams stay much safer if they can insert into positions at night. To do this they need night vision. For each NVG we are going with the soldier’s preference and/or their team leader’s preference. In most cases we are getting dual NVGs for combat medics (see our previous post on Nova from Rogue team) and in other cases for assault teams we are getting less expensive monocular devices for more team members.

Freya Night Vision
Dollar for dollar, if you don’t have the funds to outfit with the best. One set of good NV for the point person. One good scope/monocular for the marksman and/or MGer, and everyone else gets 300 yard thermals(with NV substituted as much as money allows).
The added benefit to everyone having NV is a small fraction of the cost.
