  9. Yeah, we know. The problem Trump has in this campaign is the same problem he always has: he wants to listen to his worst instincts. In a way, it makes sense. His worst instincts have helped to get him where he is, so he knows they sometimes pay off. But they don’t always. They didn’t in 2020, for example, when his worst instinct about the pandemic told him “deny and ignore the problem and it will go away.”

    So this time around, when he’s confronted with a new opponent that none of his old attacks are effective on, and that new opponent happens to be a woman of color, those instincts are blinking red at him: attack her race and gender. And of course his base will love it.

    The problem is this has a high likelihood of backfiring massively with everyone but his base. It will turn off moderates that already have issues with him and were only leaning toward him because Biden’s brain BSoD’d on live TV. So his advisors are probably telling him to watch it. So then he’s probably thinking, well she has a funny name, I can attack that by mispronouncing it, at least.

    But if the polls continue to narrow, he’s going to see those racist and sexist attacks as low hanging fruit and he’s going to be unable to resist the urge to grab at them (sort of like how he grabs at other things).

  28. She needs to start intentionally mispronouncing his name, just to piss him off. If she responds to this by regularly calling him ‘DonOLD’ it would make his brain explode with rage. Plus it pushes the age argument. It’s petty, but perfect. Do it!
