A new angle on the return scheme.
The entire scheme is a useless scam. If this scheme took off decades ago when the rest of eruope and the US were doing the same, I wouldnt be so critical of it, but the fact that Irleand is coming 50 years late to the game, and instead of looking at how other schemes worked out, or looking an new intuitive measures, they just went with a copy pasta, except one that favoured the plastic manufacturers and added an extra cost to the consumer. It is a bloody joke and sums up Irelands vision!
We should be trying to reduce plastic no taxing people extra for using it. There is zero incentitve for manufacturers to move away from plastic if it is still profitable, and this scheme has just enabled them to ramp up production, and allowed some other company to profit at the expense of the consumer, under this guise of “recycling”.
Poor Conor
As the village asks, how is a man so wrong still being asked for his opinion?

Ah yes, the “wrongest man in ireland” strikes again.
It’s amazing how he can go through his whole career being so wrong constantly, and still have a career.
Who let that gobshite on the newspaper.
You think we’d be smart and just add a bucket to the side of bins for bottles and cans, save those who want them the bin dive.
I think the scheme has been a massive success after my initial criticism, you’re definitely seeing less bottles thrown around and people’s attitudes have changed.
Having said that (Larry David)…. I have seen rubbish bags being ripped open in town recently as opposed to just fishing bottles out of an open bin. It’s just plain exposing rubbish, dirt, smells etc to the elements and seagulls.
My only problem with the return machines is the indoor ones in warm weather absolutely STINK of stale beer. Don’t know if other countries tackle this but would be interested to know.
The scheme is a pain in the hole. The ‘make the consumer pay rather than tackle the issue at source’ is wrong in principle. I spent 30 mins depositing 7 euro worth of plastic before doing my shopping that is chock full of needless single use plastic.
They did this bottle system years back in the UK according to a friend of mine and it’s since been scrapped
Would conor ever fuck off
I’ve seen the opposite, where homeless are actually recycling items and results in less litter
