  1. *I didn’t hit you I barely touched you* ahh weak kindergarten move

  2. Too deep for some Barrys and americ*nts to comprehend

  3. This sub is full of chuds, and I love seeing you all seethe at this shit

  4. Hm, she might have a point about the bacchanalia.

But Sequana sounds like the name of a pokemon.

  5. Hitler is smiling up from Jannah, Olympics did more to hurt international gay rights then he could have ever dreamed of

  6. Achthually (loudly pulls nose up) Bacchanalias were illegally held at night in woods/countrysides as most Greek and Latin tyrants/rulers were against the public display of obscene acts, even if meant in honor of Baccus

  7. Marie-Antoinette wasn’t guilty of any of these things. What she was guilty of was being the Queen of France, and thus she couldn’t be allowed to live by the Revolutionaries. Louis XVI’s case, on the other hand, is far more debatable: it is known he conspired with foreign powers to subdue the Revolution, but you have to put things in perspective: except for the Parisians, pretty much the whole world considered Louis the rightful ruler of France and not some uppity cabale of bourgeois with weird delusions of power. So treason? Depends on the perspective.

Oh, and we’re supposed to gloss over the CLEAR copying of the Cena by saying it is some kind of bacchanale? Tough luck, many people are more intelligent than this.

  8. I just found the display disrespectful against the smurfs. What have they done to deserve this?

  9. Honestly, it’s worrying me seeing how people on this sub are getting more polarised and how popular ameritard arguments are

  10. Who gives a fuck about all that, there was no James Bond and Queen jumping out of helicopter, so the main criticism remains. It was shit because London 2012 was better ! Simple as.

  11. If your symbolism is so unclear that we need multiple explanations of what it *actually* is, it’s shitty symbolism. I’m a classicist with about two decades of experience, and the first thing I thought when I saw the banquet thing was: Last Supper.

Also, this snarky blasé thing doesn’t mean you’re right. It does mean you’re annoying.

  12. It is mind-blowing the mental gymnastics that some people do to try to justify that shit.

We all know what it was, stop making excuses.

  13. The Marie Antoinette part was disgusting.
The killing mob is not something to be proud of.
There’s a reason they call the years after her killing “the terror”, and it’s not because they were having a terrific time.

Only illiterates could sympathize with the revolutionaries in this particular case, one of their many atrocities).

  14. Finally, we’re getting the opening ceremony lore!

  15. The fuck is going on? I didn’t watch the ceremony why is everyone so mad right now?

  16. Imagine watching the ceremony and not immediately getting all of that 💀 Of course it had to be yanktards.

  17. I just thought it was tacky tbh! Some parts of it were cool, some were not. I’ve been watching Olympics since Beijing and this one was my least favourite. I think it was trying too hard to be cool and different and it just ended up beign kind of annoying and pretentious.

I don’t think you can argue that the drag catwalk didn’t evoke the last supper though. It’s one of the most famous paintings ever and instantly recognisable, I can’t believe that no set designer or choreographer looked at the layout during planning (the mise en scene if you will) or rehearsals and didn’t think ‘oh damn that looks like the last supper or however you say that in filthy frog language. I think people are overreacting to it a fair bit but to say ‘it’s not the last supper it’s bachannalia’ is silly because it can be two things. There can be two references.

  18. huh TIL where we got the name we use for the seine river, we still use the roman-gallic name of the deity

  19. What I find most interesting about this whole thing is that no one seemed to have mention this in the talking points for the announcers or in the later press conference.

It’s election year in the US so idiocy is cranked up to 11. And no one seemed to ask why the last supper was labeled “FESTIVITE”.

It amuses me that the director is just letting people stew.

IOC did send out a tweet about Dionysus. But who reads those?

    Grade A trolling by France.

  20. Why are you trying to educate them?

Let them be funny at their expense please.

  21. Yeah, but how an I supposed to produce an over the top display of performative outrage over any of that?
