Tax the Tax avoiders, like Lord Ashcroft from the House of Lords.
He doesn’t pay tax yet votes on our laws and gets paid for it.
He also employs our MP’s from Tory and Labour, my own MP Jess Phillips included.
This is why Tax avoiders don’t get called out, they own ALL our politicians.
Funnily enough an exit tax is one of the few things Brexit undeniably did open up for the UK.
As an EU member you can’t have local laws which contradict the EU 4 freedoms (business, people, capital, services). The UK found this out when their CFC laws were blocked by the EU (until we tweaked them).
This stops and country having exit taxes worth their salt between any EU countries and that kills the idea dead full stop as you’d just go UK>Temporary jurisdiction within the EU>final destination.
Now as this doesn’t apply the UK could have a proper exit tax for businesses and individuals.
If you don’t believe anything I’ve written Dan Neidel wrote about it and it’s his PoV too.
But no one thought of this when they ramped up uni fees and put essentially created a graduate tax? Especially with the silly interest they were adding to them.
People just leaving university tend to have nothing tying them to the UK, have just been highly educated, and there skills are often in high demand in countries where the salary is a lot better.
Now, particularly since Brexit, the UK is declining rapidly and we’re getting a reputation for street crime and nobody wealthy wants to get stabbed over a watch that costs as much as a house.
The plain fact is that the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer and are turning to crime as they don’t have well paying jobs that meet their needs.
Worker pay has stagnated for years but executive pay has rocketed which hasn’t helped.
They can’t if you do it right.
If a person has a global nett worth over x, you tax any income from uk based assets.
This way they can’t run cos your taxing the asset and the asset is often the office we work in, the shops, the flats.
Murdoch papers just want you to believe it’s not possible cos they don’t wanna pay their fair share.
Why are we trying to attract all the super wealthy in this country. Who own all the property and rent it back to us and make all.our houses unaffordable anyway?
They add no value to.this country and are like leech who extract our money and we reward them for it.
If they can fly away, why aren’t they in Dubai already? They either are okay with paying tax or don’t pay any tax. There are numerous tax havens that billionaires don’t frequent because they, like everyone else, want to live somewhere they like. We should model our tax systems on other countries similar to us, work with them to maximise taxes and not try to undercut them. A race to the bottom is never in anyone’s interest.
LET THEM.
Same old, repeatedly proven false argument has been made for centuries.
You really think it’s worth being rich to live in Rwanda just to pay lower taxes?
Go ahead.
Do let us know how it goes.
Those with wealth want to spend it and want nice places to spend it in.
So much evidence shows that people done leave like these morons say. Also if someone would leave because they don’t want to start contributing to the country they are leaching off, we are better off without them
There is a level of wealth where tax is a charitable donation, which many choose not to do. If actually taxing those sods means they leave, we lose nothing as their amazing and important job can be backfilled by someone who will hack it being filthy rich rather than disgustingly rich.

Are we talking about people with large salaries? If so that’s a drop in the ocean. The truly wealthy are wealthy by way of assets. They’re personally free to go wherever they want but they can’t take their portfolio of assets with them because those are physically bound to a location where they will continue to be taxed at the local rate regardless of where the owner disappears to. It’s such an empty threat that wealthy people leaving is a problem. Let them go. Maybe we can then re-distribute their assets in a fairer way that addresses the fundamental wealth inequality issues we have.
If the wealthy people did us a favour and followed through with their threats there would be a re-balancing of the economy and since what remains would be a more equal economy, the prices of goods and the incentives for business would be re-callibrated to suit the new composition.
It’s getting really boring hearing how vital the capital elite class is to everything. They’re not. That’s their narrative in order to sustain the charade that allows them to continue appropriating wealth from everyone else. What makes a healthy economy is the regular exchange of wealth. An elite capitalist class vacuuming up all the wealth never to spend it is the exact opposite of a healthy economy.

The UK used to be seen as a good place for the wealthy to move to. Good private schools/universities, fantastic houses, culture, arts, London with it’s shopping, great restaurants, stable government, english language and they could buy citizenship through the golden visa scheme. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/feb/24/home-office-accused-of-cover-up-over-golden-visas-for-super-rich-russians
