  1. The lesson – never do anything for the State!

  2. The lack of housebuilding is just a fucking joke at this point

  3. He ignored his solicitor’s very clear legal advice that despite the good vibes element he would be a landlord and here we are.

  4. If you read the article, this fella was a pain in the arse and a major reason why the family have no home to move on to. The Irish Refugee Council did the right thing: They set up a tenancy agreement between him and the Afghans, and then managed the family’s application to the Housing List and HAP. Then the host refused to sign the documents for their HAP application, on a spurious basis. This basically guaranteed that they wouldn’t have any home to move on to. I have worked in this exact area. Based on the article, the Irish Refugee Council followed the right steps, and he sunk the ship for no good reason right when it mattered most. He sounds like a melt to deal with.

Edit: People with spare property are usually really rich, and often a pain in the hole to work with, even while being very generous.

  5. I know a few people in a group I’m in who pledged houses and apartments to Ukrainians and when they asked about if there would be any issues should they need or want their property back at any point, they were given wishy washy answers and nothing in writing. They deemed it too risky at that point so had to withdraw from the pledges.

Looks like they might have been right.

  6. Can we please , for the ever loving Christ, stop posting articles that almost nobody can read.
