There is a modern house near where I live that has plenty of small chimney-thingies on the roof. There is a constant droning noise coming out of it. It sounds like one of the fans has a worn bearing or something.
You can hear it clearly when you stand near to that building, then it fades away as you walk away, but the sound happens to bounce of other buildings or something and focuses exactly on my bedroom window which is like 150 m away. You can't hear it when you stand outside my building, you hear it much less if you are in the spare bedroom, but you can hear it very well in my main bedroom.
It was hard to record it, as the mobile phone did not pick the frequency, so I used a sound recorder and cleared the white noise a bit. You can hear my cat meowing at one point, which gives you some inclination as to how loud the sound is. It is not really that loud, but it's loud enough to disturb my sleep. Mind you, this is recorded from INSIDE my bedroom, about 150 metres away.
Long story short – it keeps me awake at night and I can't have a proper sleep for months now. You can hear it slightly even if you close the window, and of course, you can't really do it in the current heat. My girlfriend uses earplugs, but I can't sleep with them.
I spoke with my landlord, we visited the house in question. There are two flats in it, the residents claim they don't have any fans (obviously it's not true) and can't hear any noise – which is kind of true, you can't hear the noise if you stand in the front of that building, only in the back.
I wonder what else I could do about it? There is some resident association in the area, should I contact them? I am thinking about posting on my local Facebook group and asking if anyone else is bothered by that (people who live in the block next to that house must have it much worse than me). But does it make sense? Can anything be done about it? Is there some noise-pollution institution that would make the owners of the house fix the fan?
