  1. Had no idea we were actually banned from the Olympics before seeing this map, fascinating, TIL.

  2. A lot of other countries need to be on this list.

  3. Glad to see that the Taliban changed their position on women after the ban in 2000 /s

  4. Why Japan and germany in 1948? Wouldn’t the war have been over for a few years by then? I guess they were still being punished?

  5. It is interesting that USA was never banned because of war aggression.

  6. Lithuania was expelled from the Olympic Games due to Berlin’s position regarding Lithuanian anti-Nazi policy, particularly because of the 1934–35 Trial of Neumann and Sass in Klaipėda.

  7. Surprised there aren’t more countries banned this year.

  8. Ah yes, USA never banned ofc, nothing wrong they did at all

  9. Can someone explain the ban of germany in 1920 and 1924? The war was 2/6 years over at the time.

  10. War aggression LOL.

Don’t make me go back on history.

  11. They definitely announced the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea during the opening ceremonies.

  12. Looks like Russia is trying to break South Africa’s record

  13. If there citizens can participate it’s not banned 😡

  14. Would have loved to see Israel there this year
But it looks like our governments are not bold enough

  15. Even the International Court of Justice has decreed that Israel is unlawfully occupying the West Bank, yet it can still partake?

  16. Why don’t they ban United States for the Middle East war crimes they committed

  17. Guess the country that has never been banned from the Olympics, despite multiple acts of War aggression nor **Political stance** (racial discrimination policies)?

  18. Pretty unfair that Germany got banned for two Olympic Games after WW1 even though other European countries like Russia, France or Serbia were as much to blame for the outbreak of WW1 as Germany.

  19. **Reason: 1964 South Africa (*****Political stance – Apartheid regime*****)**

1964 starting year of South Africa’s ban on participating i/t Olympics up to +1992

Currently – close to 2025 – South Africa still is record holder with 8 (and all consecutive) periods of bans

    Just for the info’s:

Headliner from 1990 : *South African president, Frederik Willem de Klerk, released N. Mandela*, who was jailed since 1963 for being the leader of ANC’s military branch.

  20. Weird Germany was banned in 48 but not Italy. Actually looking at it Italy should have been banned prior to WW2 for it’s action in Ethiopia and it’s role in WW2. Really stands out as both Germany and Japan were banned.
