  1. It used to be to fit in the mines, but that ship has sailed now

  2. Barry is a English derivative of « Barrique », first introduced by Normand conquerors of England.

When first noticing that the island was inhabited by rotound creatures, they called them « barrique », a crude barrel for beer

  3. Barry is short for Barry, 63, which in turn is short for Barry, 63 from Brum, which is again short for Barry, 63, from Birmingham.

  4. Barry is short for Barry, 63, loves his beer, loves his country ‘ates foreigners

  5. Funny enough Barry ISNT British

Barry is actually an English spelling of the Irish name Baire, which itself is a nickname for Fionnbharr or Barrfhionn. Both of those names mean “fair hair”.

Gary was not originally a nickname. It came from an English surname that derived from names beginning with the Germanic element “Ger-” meaning “spear”. Later it became used for names that begin Gar- such as Garrett.

  6. Barry is actually originally mainly an Irish name, based on the proper Irish Báire.

It can also be short for Bartholemew and a few other names, but those also probably originally in imitation of the first.

  7. Barnulf
    Barfer
    Barnboy

    Something along those lines.

  8. If English: Barrold

    If Scottish: Barrimald

If Welsh (OG British Barry): Baradwyr

    If Norn: Barrymorry

    If Irish: Báireaghmadach
