  1. idle hands and all that. £2m is a drop in the ocean and hope it can make a difference for the kids

  2. How does the activities reduce crime and how is it measured? Someone pocketing £2 million and doesn’t have to show anything for it.

  3. Good good. I hope the money can get into the hands of grassroot groups that can really stretch it. Youth provisions have suffered so much over the past 15 years.

  4. 2 million is a drop in the ocean but it makes headlines. If you want to reduce youth crime in London start with the adults and arrest protestors who trash the city. Show youth that there are consequences

  5. Ok so they kick ball or play table tennis for a few hours? What do they do for the rest of the day? Need to get to the root cause which is in the home.

  6. Invest in harder policing and have the parents get their shit together.

All his previous attempt failed, he need to learn because his mistakes are dangerous for everyone

  7. We definitely do need free third spaces for kids. When I was growing up, we’d hang out at Trocadero in central. It was nice because if you had some money, you could play the games and what not and if not, it was just somewhere cool to hang out and meet other similarly aged young people. Bus travel is free with the zip oyster, so we’d spent an hour on the bus getting there and back and it definitely kept us out of trouble and from bothering other people.

Not saying that this will solve all our youth crime issues, but having something to do that’s accessible will definitely help. Idle hands make for the devils work and all.

Edit: I think sports is a good place to start, but it would be cool if they also subsidised or funded non-sporting groups as well. I hear crocheting is all the rage with young people now, craft clubs would be pretty cool. Especially as many artistic endeavours can be inaccessible to children from low income families.

  8. remember when there were just “youth clubs” open everywhere.
