Where are the Nike Air Max tracksuit brigades scabbing 1 euros off people?
Your first man up the ladder giving it his all, class!
And people complain that everybody dresses the same way these days
What I always find interesting about these videos is how little colour there is in the clothing of the crowds. Imagine how zapped someone from back then’s brain would be if you dropped them in the city centre now with just how much colour there is, comparatively.
People moved a lot faster back then.
Most of the children here lived and probably died horrifically in WW1, weird to think about given how normal things look here and how peaceful of a time we’re living in now
There’s a door in the ladder. That’ll give Tommy Tiernan something to talk about….
The past is a foreign country – they don’t rob deliveroo drivers there.
Must have been nothing on the telly
After a quick google, it appears that the shop on the left “A. Betts” number 140, was an umbrella manufacturer with an Alice Betts listed on the voting register as resident in 140 St Stephens green. This is now where the Stephens green shopping centre is. The fire brigade looks like it comes from Grafton street. The buildings in the background on the right are still standing and correspond to google maps.
The dress sense and style back then was so much nicer, what happened?
Do Dubliners still chase fire engines?
Were women not allowed outside in those days or what?
If we fed the budget kitty a bit more, we could have another fine service such as this was again!
that ladder has a door!
Not a woman in sight, mad how much things have changed.
Which ones are the scauldy ones – can’t tell
probably one of the coolest things I’ve seen on this sub. it’s pretty nice to see something else on here that isn’t the usual paragraph about some guy complaining about his wife. I’m a history buff so this stuff is like a drug to me.
it’s so cool seeing this footage. at that point, the British empire had become the largest empire to ever exist in human history and we were close to the heart of it and seeing this footage of this time which is one of the most important periods not only in our history but global history and seeing how life was back then, how people dressed, acted and how the street looked. it’s all so cool
Did they not know how to run with their arms? like feckin puppets
When exactly were girls invented? 🤔🙃
The music makes it more dramatic! haha

Absolutely everything was done in a 3-piece suit back then. I can only imagine how smell people were as there was no way of reasonably washing clothes and the whole world was a giant pile of horse manure.
Hard to imagine that everybody in that video is now dead. I wonder what each of their lives were like.

Like Mao’s China with the dress code.

God knows where the ladder raising clip was taken. Probably an old fire station, as that appears to be a purpose built climbing / building frame.
That ladder is fierce advanced tech.
Is that horseshit on the roads. My God.
One thing period pieces never get right is the amount of horse poo there was back then.
This is surreal. Great job!
My receding hairline says that we should bring back all this hat wearing

Everyone is dressed so smartly, no Lonsdale and Nike in sight
Had no idea Hans Zimmer started his career scoring fire drills, but there you go.
Was that a hybrid I see? A horse and steam engine carriage.

Now let’s see what happens when we change the background music to [Yakety Sax?] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnHmskwqCCQ)
