Cabinet set to green-light two Citizens’ Assemblies

  1. However, still no update on the promised citizens assembly on drugs. One that has been repeatedly delayed, yet extremely important to many in Ireland.

  2. >the second will examine what type of directly elected mayor and local government structures best suit Dublin

At the risk of sounding like a bitter culchie, why just Dublin? Shouldn’t we be looking at all cities in Ireland, if only for future planning?

(For the record, I think Dublin ought to get a directly elected mayor and/or a more powerful council)

  3. How is a directly elected mayor of Dublin more pressing than citizens all over the country having their quality of life impacted by our current drug laws? ( and I’m a Dub)
Time and time again citizens have asked for a change in the current drug laws and time and time again we are ignored and belittled by government.

  4. They seem like issues for professional experts in those area’s. These arent “societal” issues like abortion or drug use and so should not be left in the hands of 100 randomers to make suggestions on. Citizens assembly certainly has its places but issues such as these, arent part of that.
