  1. Good, but I’d prefer if they just enforce what we have already.

If the Gardaí can’t do it themselves then automate it with stationary or roaming cameras as well as quicker roll out of the red-light cameras.

  2. I agree buuuuut then what do ppl do when using it for maps like a taxi driver. Laws can’t be overly specific or else leaves to endless dismissal.

Obviously ppl need to cop the fuck on but I don’t think it’s as simple as harsher offences.

EDIT: ok strong reaction 🛑. Obviously we should always discourage ppl from using their phones while driving but none the less there are even holster sold in every garage in the country for ppl to hold there phones up to read the screen in case of a call or emergency 🤷🏻‍♂️ how do we discriminate there say if it were a medical person needing to see it so we write laws based on professions based around mobile phone use?
Whatever we think the law needs to be clear and interpreted or else it can be manipulated and yes ppl are looking at their phones way more but I don’t see how harsher offences will bring any great change to this debate ppl will just get Smarter at hiding phones from view to avoid being seen.

  3. Maybe have a look at the giant iPads in new cars now that you have to play with to do anything in the car. Was in one the other day. Had to turn on the fog lights. First find the damned dog light button in all the tabs. Them are you sure you want the dog light on. Yes. Just as bad as a phone.

  4. They need to have those cameras at traffic lights in Australia where they’re pointed down at you so to see who is using phones and who isn’t

  5. Honestly this isn’t even at the top of the pressing issues list. The quality of driving down south is abysmal and that’s when I compare it to some of the shit I see here up north. More enforcement of the basics would be a start.
