I Was at the Kamala Harris Rally in Atlanta. What You’re Seeing Is Very Real.

  1. It’s enthusiasm like Bernie was getting in early 2016 and like Obama was getting in 2008. And it’s too late for them to stop it.

  2. As a resident of ATL, I can tell you the vibe here is palpable.

  3. But on social media Trump and some journalist explicitly employed by rightwing group Turning Point said that people began walking out 5 or 15 minutes in! The journalist even had video evidence, complete with the Turning Point logo slapped on it: ***15 whole seconds in total*** of TWO ultra short clips spliced together!! Clips that–*GASP!*–showed roughly a DOZEN people out of thousands *leaving their seats and walking somewhere!*

    Checkmate libruls!

    ^Does ^that ^really ^need ^an ^/s?

  4. At least we’ll stop hearing the claims of the Democratic candidate hiding in a basement, not campaigning, and drawing no crowds to rallies as proof that they couldn’t have possibly won the election.

  5. First the Kids Choice awards now presidential rallies, everyone playing this song

  6. I mean, it’s everywhere now. I’ve seen it used as background sound for a tiktok about how to water propagate a philodendron.

I wonder if, in retrospect, it will even symbolically have much to do with Drake. It might just end up synonymous with ‘this year in general’.

  7. Since MAGA equates crowd sizes with vote totals, I hope this is a regular thing. Maybe it will help brunt DonOld’s claims of a rigged election if he loses.

  8. Winning GA would increase Kamala Harris’ chances of winning the presidency by over 2.5 times! GA really matters to winning the electoral college and is likely the 2nd most important state in the presidential campaign.

  9. Donny’s obsession with celebrity and crowd size is weird, but if this bothers him that’s good enough for me.

  10. Atlanta suburbs could, once again, decide an election.

  11. A HUGE thank you to Joe Biden for putting his ego aside and doing what’s best for our country. I’m far more optimistic we will still be a democracy four years from now than I was a month ago.

  12. I was very worried a few weeks (or ten years? – what day is it, even?) ago, because it seemed like everyone was dog-piling Biden to drop out with no plan for anything after that, just desperation and panic. I was very hesitant about the idea, because it felt a lot like the media wanted the president’s scalp, and the party was going to give it to them with chaos ensuing after. But Harris has leapt into the fray swinging and the entire party has flooded into the breach behind her, including potential rivals for the candidacy. Now there’s Obama ’08 energy in the air, and I could not have anticipated this in my wildest hopes.

I have never been so grateful to have been proven wrong.

  13. All those small individual donor donations didn’t come from nowhere. Even as a Democrat voter, I would not have given to the Biden campaign and didn’t in 2020 either, but did as soon as she confirmed she was running.

  14. I like the vibes an enthusiasm so much. But I can’t help but still feel dread as most polls have her basically neck and neck in swing states and I’m getting 2016 flashbacks. Gonna be a lot of drinking between now and election day.

  15. I don’t doubt it, because I can feel it. It’s everywhere. People are fucking pumped.

  16. I was there too. The excitement was real. I just hope it starts long enough to ride this want to victory over Trump.

  17. The thing that struck me was how much *fun* she seemed to be having. I think that’s really powerful. Fun is contagious. We want to be on the side of the fun people. DJT’s evident fun in his rallies (especially in 2016) was a weapon whose power we didn’t appreciate at the time. But now they’re old hat, and the Trump schtick is old, and the candidate himself is old and cranky and feeling the pressure. It feels like the fun is on our side now. Let’s keep it there.

  18. Remember electing Obama? It was just like this.

    Harris will win.

  19. That was the best presidential stump speech I’ve ever ever seen (not live).

  20. Anyone else worried that the hype might fall flat or be an illusion? Vote, vote, vote, regardless.

  21. They not like us. Is about to be played at all the rallies.

These fucking weirdos need to be called out

  22. Kamala feels like hope. Maybe not like Obama uppercase Hope but still a breath of fresh air.

  23. Even my super boomer parents (who vote Dem pretty reliably) went, and I’ve never known them to go to a political rally.

  24. I’m a hairdresser in Atlanta. All I know is what I personally see day to day—and I see a lot of moderate suburban white women in my chair ready who are excited to vote for Kamala.

  25. You know it’s real when Meg Stallion opens up for her

  26. It was pointed out on the pod save America pod with Gov Walz, that unless you were old enough to vote during 2008 or 2012 with Obama, this is the first election you’ve experienced with real enthusiasm and feels like some kind of generational movement. Trump feels like a rerun of an old season of the apprentice.

  27. Contrast this with Trump’s disastrous interview with the Black journalists just now…

ETA links to lowlights, including one where he literally reaches over and TIGHTENS THE LID ON HER BOTTLE OF WATER WHILE SHE’S NOT LOOKING:

  28. I love the energy and sincere support she is getting. Last minute organizing and Harris gets 10,000 people and Megan Thee Stallion to perform live and Trump keeps getting empty halls and “Cease and Desist” letters from artists not wanting to be associated with that steaming pile of spray-tanned shit.

  29. I GUARANTEE, if Harris and Trump debate, Trump will be wearing significantly more makeup

  30. Vote, vote, vote, vote! GA is one of the states where election deniers are working as election officials. There needs to be a landslide so they can’t manipulate, or have a chance to “find 11,780 votes”.

  31. I had family members at the union visit in TX, one if her first stops. They’re still raving about it.

Assuming the VP is one of the top 3 names being used, I think we might see democracy continue.

  32. Nah, Lauren Boebert said in a tweet today that Democrats never liked her, and they still dont. They’re just pretending to. Okay, Boobert, you’re definitely the person who would be tapped into the Democratic zeitgeist.

  33. I mean she is at the center of some of the most important societal zeitgeist’s over the past half decade. Most recently, the tremendous ascension of women as the dominant force in education, culture and media. But also BLM and the rise of Asian voters. I would be positively shocked if she doesn’t win. I would also be shocked if we don’t see deeper and deeper gender and racial divides to follow her election.

  34. If we can win GA with its 16 electoral votes, we would only need AZ and PA to win the presidency. That would be amazing.

  35. A rally filled with fun and hope for our future? This brings me great joy

  36. I’m loving seeing all these MAGAs in real time start to realize that they live in a bubble and (shock and horror!) most of the country doesn’t like them or what them to have power.

  37. It’s really pretty simple. The fed US government has pretty much always been a rough old beast, but the people trying to fix it on our side are good people, and yes, power is corrupting, but the other side legit wants to control vaginas and POC people so they can fuck off.
