  1. Glad it was successful. It’s awful that this is a thing, especially at Comic Con

  2. Honestly I’m shocked that is all they found only a few adult and one 16 year old victims and arrested a bunch of buyers.

  3. “Law enforcement personnel went undercover as sex buyers to arrest traffickers and recover potential victims of human trafficking. They also posted undercover ads soliciting sex to arrest sex buyers”

So the usual stings of trying to buy sex and a to catch a predator? Seems like a round about way to say it.

  4. It’s heartbreaking to think how many victims from past Comic-Cons there might be, whom were not so lucky to be saved.

  5. I’m out of the loop a bit. When I think of sex trafficking I think of someone held against their will away from home and family and forced to have sex with people for money that their captives pocket. So did they actually catch sex traffickers, or did they catch people engaged in prostitution, the selling of sex for money?

I can easily understand how prostitution exists everywhere but have trouble understanding how sex trafficking can be so abundant around events like ComicCon. I’m not casting doubt, I’m just ignorant on this subject

  6. from the TMZ article

“Worth noting … we’re told the 14 individuals who were busted on solicitation of prostitution charges are NOT considered sex traffickers. Instead, we’re told the sex trafficking element of this story actually comes from prostitutes law enforcement encountered down in SD.”

“We’re told 9 adult sex workers and one minor sex worker were swooped up and saved as part of this operation — and the AG’s office says they’re hopeful this leads to the capture and arrest of the real ringleaders behind all this.”

  7. After Robert Kraft, I am extremely skeptical of the cops when they say it’s a “sex trafficking ring”.

Prostitution is an extremely easy arrest, so of course the cops love to do it to boost their stats. And they don’t have to prove it was sex trafficking right away, so they get the loving PR. Because while consenting adults paying for sex sounds like something that should be legal, sex trafficking is universally agreed upon as an incredible evil in this country.

Glad they got a 16 year old off the streets, though. And if it turns out there was legit trafficking or the buyers in question were after someone underage, I’ll gladly change my reaction. But right now, given the very careful language in this article, I’m calling BS.

  8. So just a regular old fashioned prostitution sting then?

  9. The only way a comic con attendee could get a woman is if they bought her from a trafficker. It’s not a shock.

  10. Wow. How many times can an article cram the word ‘trafficking’ ?!

This is a prostitution sting. Pure and simple. Equating all prostitution with trafficking is disingenous.

Why not address the economic conditions that drive prostitution, rather than sensationalizing it?
