War reporter Francis Farrell answers questions about Russia’s invasion

The Kyiv Independent’s war reporter Francis Farrell sat down to answer questions from our viewers about Russia’s war in Ukraine and his experience of covering it. Francis talks about how the team chooses stories and prepares to trips to the front line, how drones became an analogue of “Uber Eats” for soldiers, and explains why Ukraine doesn’t seek peace with Russia at any price.

  7. We in the west do not get Russian propaganda . If you say anything remotely that does not criticise Russia ,you are right away a Putin puppet . The west is ready to fight to the last Ukraine.

    I was really shocked in your last videos about gases being used. It was a shame and disgraceful. I hope each man at least has cbrn equipment. It rarely seems as if they do.

  11. 7:17 The answer may be simple, but you didn't provide it. The question was not: "why isn't Ukraine surrendering?" It was: "why isn't Ukraine willing to engage in peace negotiations?" What's the fear there? What do you have to lose?

    You say Russia wants to destroy Ukraine. Yes, according to 2019 Arestovich, that is Russia's Plan B. Plan A is to force Ukraine neutrality, but if it can't do that, then destroying Ukraine is what will keep NATO out. We all understand that the options Ukrainians have in front of them are not something they "want." But we live in the real world, and in the real world you are often forced to choose between options, none of which you like. Just look at the US presidential race.

You are wrong about Russia …are you telling us that you don't know about the Rand corporation reports that detailed how Russia would be destroyed using Ukraine …are you suggesting Russians are mad to just wake up one day and attack their own brothers…this Western narrative of labelling Russians as sub humans has to stop we are sick and fed up of it.

  23. "Diminishing quality of troops" – those people are not meat, and everyone sees them as they have duty to fight for what EU and NATO tell them to – I'm sure that even Russians feel more sorry for all the Ukrainian lives lost than their "backers".
    A whole nation has been plunged into a mindless war they can only die in and victory is just a pipe dream. Ukrainians are a beautiful and talented people, more so than in most other European countries and yet they have made themselves disposable beyond belief. The Russians would never do that, and in this very difference lies the Ukrainian tragedy we're all watching day by day.

  24. 9.4.2022 British PM Boris Johnson came to Kiev to ruin early peace plans. Bad men and women in the west wanted you to fight against Russia. Since then you have been dying because of their interest only.
