I very strongly question how possible it is to rehabilitate someone who at 12 years old is capable of pushing a machete all of the way through a person’s body while they are helpless on the ground – but I’d like to be proven wrong.
They were 12 years old???? They should name the parents. This country needs to start putting hard accountability on parents with delinquent kids. Start throwing the book at them. Maybe then people will think twice before sleeping with someone.
If they are old enough to murder somebody then they are old enough to named.
Violent children are one of the highest risks to your safety.
The entire justice system in the country is designed to not impact child offenders negatively, common assaults and ABH are generally disposed of with youth cautions by YOT’s. More serious offences such as sexual assaults or GBH tend to receive rehabilitation orders and serious violence like murder is met with short sentences in young offenders prisons.
If anyone including the police uses force on a child they are under far more criticism than the offending child.
Young people with an appetite for crime know this, it only takes them being arrested once to realise the entire system is weak and has not bite so they just continue commiting more crime and escalate as there is no negative consequence.
These unnamed killers will not have done this out of the blue, their behaviour will have escalated and countless teachers and police officers will have recorded their past behaviour even though doing so is utterly futile because we have a culture of not criminalising or punishing children for violent or criminal behaviour.
Its like operant conditioning has been deliberately forgotten about in the interests of appearing nice.
What good does publishing their names actually do? 99.99% of people don’t know them, so it’s pointless. The other 0.01% who do know them likely already know that they did this.
This pressure to name criminals just seems like a convenient thing to get annoyed about.
I’m all for upholding the law in not naming them but in this day and age all that happens by not naming is someone else gets named on social media then their families get harassed instead. Two weeks later accused comes back with a nice tan from a holiday in Spain but by then it’s too late.
The parents need a consequence as this is either learnt behavior or from neglect
Lol the 12 year old murderers must be protected at all costs ! Lmao
The correct decision.
Our law holds the principle that Children can be rehabilitated, and that every child that ends up before the criminal justice system should have the chance to prove they are not irredeemably evil. That is a good principle that I fully support.
An important part of that is allowing that child, should they prove themselves with good behaviour and engagement in rehabilitation, to enter the world without being forever haunted with the label of child murderer.
The reality is people do not kill people aged 12 just “because”. They do it because something has gone very wrong in the first 12 years of their life. I know we like to pretend that it is down to irredeemable evil because the alternative is that we as society have to scrutinise how we failed to prevent this happening.
Good. It doesn’t really benefit anyone having them named.
The only people who push for this kind of thing are the weirdos in the Daily Mail and Reddit comments who fantasize about doing things to literal children.
That is a beyond horrific crime – the level of unbridled brutality inflicted on another person is terrifying.
They didn’t even know him it seems. Where have we gone wrong that children are able to dehumanise someone like this and be able to carry out something so awful?!? The system certainly will have its work cut out trying to rehabilitate them and even if successful, im not sure how these kids will be able to look themselves in the mirror knowing what they’ve done…… devastating all round.
RIP Shawn Seesahai, I can’t even begin to imagine the utter pain and confusion his loved ones are going through.
