Boris Johnson discusses his ‘brilliant strategy for confusing media’ in resurfaced clip

  1. If this surprises anyone, they really haven’t been paying attention whatsoever.

The character of Johnson was always an act, it was clear as day. I remember joking with friends about how he could be PM some day if we weren’t careful.

  2. ……. shame instead of gaffs , he lets slip his actual thoughts and intentions.

Let it not be forgotten, he stole a reporters phone and also hid in a freezer to avoid answering questions.

  3. Well, a gaffe is perhaps saying “Belarus” when you meant to say “Ukraine”. He’s graduated to full scale lying and deception, like a malicious circus clown.

  4. When a PM is “trying to convince the public that he’s actually stupid rather than dishonest, isn’t it time that he goes, now?” asks Labour MP Diana Johnson

  5. Gish Gallop – it has been his strategy for as long as I can remember. Even as a journalist he littered his articles with so many errors that they were hard to counter.

  6. And he still believes it. Here’s a better strategy: DON’T BE A FUCKING CORRUPT CUNT AND FOCUS ON RUNNING THE DAMN COUNTRY!

  7. If I never heard this lying piece of shits voice speak again, it would still be a fucking hundred trillion light years too soon.

  8.      Here is a summary, together with a bit of interpretation. All quoted terms are Johnson’s.

The ‘strategy’ is to ‘shell’, ‘pepper’, throw ‘chaff’ at the media (and by extension, I take it, the electorate) with ‘gaffs’ (gaffs that you – the politician adopting the strategy – make/commit). That way, journalists do not know which gaff to concentrate upon and each gaff ‘cease[s] to be newsworthy’. The point of *that*, in turn, is that the politician can then ‘lay [his] depth charges’ at will, i.e. do significant things unnoticed.

There is of course a meta-problem. That problem is that this disclosure of strategy may itself be a strategy, i.e. designed to mislead. Whether or not that is so, i.e. whether or not Johnson is sincere in this clip, what he says therein is – of course – shocking to hear from the mouth of a future prime minister.

  9. The sad reality is despite all of this bonkers, mad, ridiculousness from Boris if there is were an election tomorrow the masses would vote for him with a terrifying huge landslide that would make Thatcher’s majorities look like small beer. We are through the looking glass, the electorate love their abuser more than they love even the concept of a potential liberator.

  10. What’s interesting to me is that this is the same strategy employed by Putin. His advisor Vladislav Surkov suggested treating Russian politics as a kind of avant-garde theater for creating chaos to distract people from what they were really doing, i.e. cementing Putin and his power base. It’s a fascinating story, but deeply worrying that BoJo might have the same strategy.

  11. I mean if his strategy was to look like a fucking moron and a liability, congratulations. Just can’t believe anyone looked at this clown and said “yes. This man must actually be a genius and not a complete Baldrick playing the most cunning of plans on us”. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
